I'm wondering if any other Americans have started their own businesses in Poland? I'm looking to do this to get around the issue of a work permit with every Polish employer. This way Polish employers can legally employ me as a freelancer rather than being forced to go through the trouble of applying for a work permit for me. (Something most of them aren't anxious to do.)
I have a NIP number and a residence permit now. I'm just wondering if any of my fellow Americanos out there have set up a sole proprietorship in Poland?
I'm going to be contacting the embassy today (although I wonder if it's a good idea). |

Hello Mate,
Have a look at the sticky link for an overview about businesses. If you look at page 2 of the sticky link, "the new guy" explained that Americans have a bi-lateral agreement - i'd ask Dynow (I think he's got his own business) or the American Embassy about this. One of our mutual friends (Mr Lund  ) has contacts within the American Embassy, so It'd probably be a good idea to get in contact with him and them too. |

Ya really.... why not spend some time reading about this topic which has been covered to death on this forum?
The embassy proabaly won't help you with anything.
There are tons of links to supporting govt websites with all the pertinent info here as well. |

| I did it but I also have PL citizenship. Its a pain in the ass but once up and running the low ZUS payments plus having tons of write offs is a major plus. A big minus is that no bank wants to give you loan since your considered high risk... idiots. |

I asked citibank to give me an overdraft facility equal to a third of my average monthly income over the past two and a half years. They told me that it would be impossible unless I proved that I paid all my tax, VAT and ZUS on time. I told them to look at my account history and check that for themselves that I paid it all on time. They said they needed letters from all three offices confirming that it was all paid on time.
I always thought that banks make money by lending people money. Apparently citibank doesn't. Although that might explain why they are in the *beep* financially right now! |

because you're a Polish citizen, maybe it's different, but once my 2 year honeymoon passed, my ZUS shot up to 700+ a month. i've looked at all the angles and I simply can't avoid it. |

Oh I know after 2 years it goes up to 700, but Im planning on doing something else by then.
With the loans, I wanted to take a 40000 loan for a car, I got interest rates in the 20%, I remember from Santander I got 30%!! 30%??? Might as well go to the mob. F' em. Im not going to touch a single thing involved with credit in PL. Credit cards are a joke as well. |

So you never found a school nice enough to give you an umowa o dziełłłłłłłłłłłłłłłłłło?
Also umowa o świadczenie usług goes alright. |

Simon Porter wrote a great sticky on the Subject but he's a Brit. I now know that the US and Poland have a bilateral agreement and I'm trying to find more information on that. Simon's sticky (God that sounds wrong) was very helpful, but I just want to know if it applies to Americans?
Like I said, I already have a personal NIP and a residence permit. Based on some of the other posts it sounds like a lawyer is a good idea and an accountant is necessary.
Based on an older post is sounds like this will cost around 5,500zl. and take about a month to complete. Is that accurate? |
