dear colleagues,
i want to ask you about working as a lecturer (okutman) in public universities in Turkey.
Currently i work for a state primary school. As you know,it is a secure job and state teachers are paid approximately 1.000 U.S dollars a month.Adding to this,we've paid summer holidays e.t.c
So we don't work much and it is impossible to lose your job whatever you do.However,as you can imagine it is not possible for me to satisfy myself with this job.
Have you got any information about the status of the lecturers (okutman) in public universities in Turkey. Is it as secure as teaching at a public school.Do you think i should resign and start teaching at a university.?
The salary is almost the same. Please share your ideas with me..

Hello turkemy. Yes I would like to know more about teaching in state university too. I have worked in private universities in Turkey. My understanding is that private universities work along the lines of state ones because of YUK (please correct me anyone), and this is the state body to which all universities are accountable. The actual work undertaken in a language department (particularly prep) is common to both types of university. It is systematic but often to the point of lacking any creativity in teaching, or originality. A case of collective working in order to meet a deadline. No praise for initiative or hardwork. It is steady work and pay. In this respect, I don't think your working situation would change very much if you were to change sectors. In terms of creative outlet, you may be better off where you are. What does one do, simply approach the rektor in writing regarding prospects?
