There are none. Stay away from recruitment agencies. You have been warned. |

Relying on agents is a complete toss-up; you may be lucky the first time but definitely not all the times.
I do know one recruiter that I can thoroughly recommend as he is known to reciprocate loyalty with good treatment. |

Why would anyone go through a recruiter when they could do some research and go directly to the horse's mouth? |

Keep in mind that 95% of recruiters are sleazy bottom-feeders. There are a few good ones and I know of one in NYC run by an older Chinese guy with a PhD from Columbia. He honestly has his clients' best interests at heart, but I believe he only deals with folks already in North America and looking for positions here. He also charges a modest fee.....I think.
Given that most of these characters are low-lives, can you just imagine the types of schools they deal with? Not the Tsinghua's and Fudan's of the Chinese world, that's for certain. |

Let me help you out then.
Check out the Dave's Ads for teachers. Decide on a city/region and start search for schools there.
Google "teach English in China". Not only will you find a thousand TESOL courses, you'll also find a lot of job offers.
This is how most recruiters work:
Let's say you sign a 12-month contract. If you were to go directly to the school, you'd make, for example, 5500 a month. However, if you go through a recruiter that charges that school 5000 because they placed you at that school, then the salary you'll be offered will be somewhere around 5100 a month because the school is going to deduct that recruitment fee from your paycheck.
So, in other words, going through most recruiters is not only shady, but costs YOU money.
My advice: work out your priorities (i.e. you're coming here to study Chinese--so you want to be somewhere in the NE) and then find a city (or two) that you find appealing. Do some research on those cities and narrow it down to a few possibilities. Then do research for reputable schools in those areas.
As long as you've got some experience and the basic credentials, you'll have no problem landing a good job at a good school for decent money.
I apologize I didn't say as much earlier, but I'm lazy. |

I agree with Eyrick3.
I've never used one personally, but I've seen some horror cases involving recruitment agencies. The pick is when a teacher came through the school I was at and left within 48 hours. Turned out he was in a totally different city (Zhaoqing) from the one the recruitment agency had told him (Zhuhai). He didn't even know where he was! He'd been told a bunch of other lies as well. The recruitment agency was desperate to get him to this school, just so they could collect the commission... |

Not to defend recruiters. They don't get paid till a teacher is there for one month. I asked my friend this question. I believe her answer.
If you want a decent recruiter pm me and I will give you her msn.
I have chatted with her and hooked up no less than 5 people with her and they all say good things about her and her company. I would only recommend her if I thought she is a decent person. She is therefore I recommend her. |

edited.
Think about doing the search yourself so you deal directly with the employer first.
Good luck. |

Because more and more universities are no longer hiring directly and instead opt to go through pimps like Angelina's, etc.
I, for one, hate this. However, with some spare time, a reliable internet connection and a bit of detective work you can use Angelina's and find the actual university on some listings, contact the FAO directly and that will work out. However, many universities that used to have such information easily accessible on their own, official home page, often no longer do. |
