Hey guys, how are ya doin?

I love wildlife, helping people and just having fun...
And because of this I am interested in teaching in South America, preferably Argentina, and I have a few questions I am hoping you guys and gals could help me with.

First- I don't have any type of certification for teaching abroad, I have a 2 year college degree though, will not having a teaching cert hinder my ability to find a job?

Second- I am a pretty big guy, 6'3 265 and did competition weight lifting for 5 years. I also have pretty shaggy hair and a short beard... will this intimidate/scare possible employers, even though I am a very laughable friendly guy always wearing a smile, and I clean up nicely when I put on my business attire!

I have more but these are the main two I wanted to get out of the way, thanks for your assistance !

Edit- Forgot to mention that I have been tutoring kids aged 14-17 in Math and Science classes for about 2 years now.

Usually places prefer people with a BA. While not having a teaching cert won't be a problem. You might want to look into getting a TEFL cert.

I don't think that your looks will scare employers. You probably will get a second glance on the street though

It's good that you have experience teaching things other than English. It often pays better too. I teach private classes and 2 of the 9 students I have I teach them Math, Science, SS, etc.

Oh right on then Cool

Although I could of sworn that I read somewhere (maybe it was even a post by you?) that said 3 out of 4 places you went while looking for a job didn't even ask for a college diploma?
Maybe I just imagined that though... heh Smile

that was me. I've worked at two unis and two schools and one language institute. ONly one of the unis asked to see my degree.

I said that places prefer people with degrees, but if you're just intrested in institutes, then you should have no probs. The TEFL cert will help you in the classroom. As long as you're reliable and flexible, can work split shifts, you'll be fine.

Just keep in mind that you might have to work in more than one place.
