The furniture allowance is 8500SR. Does this mean that the apartment I select will have not a stick of furniture or anything? Is it totally empty? The littleoldlady can't see herself running to the equivalent of IKEA and assembling a bed to rest her weary head. Arthritic fingers and the inability to follow basic instructions re: DIY is a problem. Can anyone enlighten?

Your furniture allowance will run to ACs, a fridge, a washing machine, a kitchen table and a chair. I doubt it will run to a bed, and if you have to replace the carpet you can say goodbye to the washing machine and the table and chair as well.

If you are going to Taif University, then most of the rented apartments include AC, and some are fully furnished. The rent in Taif is cheaper compared to Jeddah or Riyadh. If you are given reasonable housing allowances, then probably you do not need to buy any furniture, and you could save the SR8500 into your account. It is better to rent a fully/partial furnished apartment than a non-furnished one. You will save the headache and time of selling your furniture when you leave the Magic Kingdoms.

I agree with 007. Get a partially or fully furnitured tent. That way you could start working on your crochets immediately.

People must be coming and going, buying and selling, right? How does one learn of this market? In Jeddah?

Is it difficult to import things into KSA? (furniture items)

Thanks

IKEA in KSA actually assemble things for you. Mind you it is a long way from Baha to the nearest IKEA shop.

On that furniture allowance you won't be buying much. Do yo REALLY want to go to Al Baha ? Have you any idea what it is like ?
