It's true about some airlines not allowing you to board the plane on a one way ticket. As previously mentioned, the airline is responsible for getting you out again if you are refused entry. Just buy a refundable one way ticket (out of the country) and cash it in after you get where you're going.

Or.. you could ask the airline you're flying what their policy is, before you buy any tickets.

Has anyone ever had a problem getting into the country on a one-way ticket?

I've been flying into China on one-way tickets ONLY for the past 8 years, and never once had a problem, either with immigration officers or airlines. So far I only had L or F visas, never Z visas. I've been using different airlines and flying in from different places, and was never asked for a return or ticket out of China. The last time I flew into China was early January this year, on a round-trip ticket FROM China. When I applied for a visa just before the Olympics last summer, I only had one-way ticket to Hong Kong. The consulate staff wanted to see a return ticket first, but were satisfied when I told them I planned to go on to Thailand or Vietnam, and back to my home country from there. With the Games long past, I can't imagine you'll have more difficulties now than before.
