Hey all,
I was wondering if you could let me know if I have enough experience to get a decent teaching position in Indonesia. Here's what I have:
--1 year of ESL experience after graduating from college in '96; I taught at a language school in Cincinnati.
--An MA in English (Professional Writing).
--10 years of professional writing experience, ad agencies and such. (I don't even know if they care about this.)
--3 years of part-time adjunct experience teaching composition at colleges/universities.
--2 years as assistant professor in the English dept. of a university here in Ohio.
I'm also planning to get my CELTA in Boston in June. I don't have years of experience teaching ESL, but I have teaching experience. Would this be enough to get a well-paying job in Indonesia? And what is considered well-paying?
Thanks!

In short, yes, you can get a decent job. However, you will need to get more experience, I suspect, to get a top job here.
Well-paying is an extremely subjective term that varies greatly within this country. If you go to the country, well paying might be Rp. 2,000,000 or less. If you go to a big city, or certain remote areas, you could easily expect to get 10 to 15 times more than that. Medium cities, or those that are not hubs of commerce and tourism would probably be more like 5-7 times more than the country. It's all dependent on the local economy, the number of students, the type of school, whether it's easy or not to get teachers, etc....Good luck!
