Hi

Read in a magazine about these festivals. Can't find any clear info on when exactly the Kanda festival is, it just says 7-15, does anyone know when the main event will be. Also where in Tokyo is it exactly, the picture of it looks like it's in Ginza.

It says the Sanja festival is 15 to the 17th, again when's the best day to have a look?

Can anyone give me the lowdown?

Thanks

From the JNTO website: On the Saturday around noon, small and large portable shrines gather at Asakusa Shrine, and then set off to parade through the town streets. On the Sunday, three especially large-sized portable shrines join the parade. These huge portable shrines depart from Asakusa Shrine early in the morning at 6 o'clock, and return around 8 o'clock at night.

Other than the portable shrines, the parade which starts at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on the Friday is really worth seeing. Floats which carry musicians playing flutes and beating drums, people dressed as traditional artisans and dancers performing traditional dance all parade down Yanagi-dori to Asakusa Shrine.

This year it falls on May 15-17th. It sounds like there will be plenty going on no matter which day you decide to go.

Cool, thanks very much. Wish I didn't have to work on Saturdays (or at all actually).
