But of course that depends on your school. You know best whether or not they've given you cause to worry in the past over this or other issues.
Assuming your contract ends in June or July, and your current residency permit is expiring now in May, the school must renew your residency permit for them to continue employ you legally. In other words, it's also in the school's best interest to renew your residency permit on time.
Mine just expired in April. I notified my school about the impending expiration 2 weeks in advance. Then the school took me for a health check and then to the local police station and finally to the foreign experts bureau to get it renewed. These visits were not completed in the same day, instead they were spread out over the 2 weeks (one was a long holiday weekend). My permit's expiration date came and went while my passport and other papers were in the hands of the foreign expert's bureau. But in the end it was renewed no problem and I got everything back. The whole process took about 3 weeks, I think.
I believe health checks are only valid for about 6 months. You're school should be able to tell you if you need another one.
I would expect your school to be calling you shortly to arrange the above mentioned trips and to get any other required documents from you, such as passport photos, copy of your degree, etc. If not, perhaps there may be a problem. Note; however, that if they are well organized, they may have retained copies of some of these documents from your original application for a residency permit and, therefore, not need you to provide another copy.
I hope this helps. |

Since it generally takes about 1 week to get the police to complete the Resident Permit process you should have notified your employer of its expiration well in advance of one week notice. You should NEVER been in a position that you have to ask advice or do something in reference to something expiring "this week."
You school and/or you should take the resident permit application form, a copy of your contract, the foreign expert certificate, photos (2 I think), passport, and the fees to the police immediately.
As for "I believe health checks are only valid for about 6 months." ummm, no that's far from true.
In fact, if you remain in the same province, you are not required to submit a new health check. I've had ONE health check done in the 5 year 9 months I've been in China.
No need for your degree and education certificates - that's how you get the FEC.
So, be sure you inform the police the job is the same employer and you've already submitted the health documents.

my gratitude for the calming words. |

Killian,
All of this is generally-speaking...
First, if you are staying at the same school in the same city within the same province (I don't mean to be redundant -- just want to be clear) under the current rules, you don't need a new medical on a renewal.
You didn't indicate, or I didn't follow exactly,as to exactly where in the process your application is.
1. If they HAVE submitted the application to the PSB on a timely basis, then the PSB will have issued a white receipt to them. Get your hands on this white receipt, no matter what. If you have this white, stamped PSB receipt, you are absolutely covered. The PSB will tell you that.
2. If you have don't this white receipt, and they haven't submitted it, then things might get "dicey" so to speak. Nonetheless, if they have renewed your Foreign Expert Certificate, then you still have time..just get them to the PSB within the next few day's.
3. Still, further along the road to perdition, if they have done truly nothing, and if they have not renewed the FEC, and if the process is stalled, drag them to the PSB as quickly as possible within this week and have them apply for a 30-day F or L extension to your residence permit...have them explain to the PSB that there are gathering all of your papers, etc., etc., and require an additional amount of time. Such an extension is at the discretion of the PSB, but if you have been legit all of these years, then usually the PSB will honor the request but
4. If they issue you with an "F" or "L" hold-over visa, then unfortunately your new visa will not be considered a renewal, and you will have to submit yourself to the rigors of another medical and they will have to produce a lot more paperwork than in the case of a renewal.
All of this is based upon my own personal experience, having had the great misfortune to have had to walk through the fire that I think will soon be yours....
All the best,
Xiao |

Depends which office it is. At the Panjin office, all it took was a bribe to the person in charge of foreign affairs and STAMP another renewal. Shenyang was also the same. My boss tried to do it the legit way with them once and got into trouble for not paying a bribe. |

The question related to overstaying: 500 yuan a day. There seems to be a maximum level that a colleague of mine reached a year ago in Hunan: 5'000. He overstayed for months, though. |
