I had to do the same thing when coming from Dalian to Beijing....but it was the FEC and passport that I had to send back to the authority to enable them to complete the paperwork/certificate from the exit-entry bureau....I also had to have a form from the PSB as to no criminal behavior...

The ablity of a company to change an L to a Z is still common in many companies in china ... if you lost your FEC.. or no longer have it .. you can try the copy but unlikely it will work...a trip to HK may be necessary...

I had a residence permit from my previous job, and once it got close to expiring, I went to HK and got an L visa to tide me over while I sort things out with the new company in China. I'm not getting a RP extension, and I've already effectively canceled my existing RP with a new temporary visa. In order to get the Z visa procedure underway with the new company, will I need a copy of my FEC or a release letter from my previous employer?

Hmmm - mine expires at the end of June - and i wanna move on. Stay ib China over the summer and find a new job at my leisure. If i find one before - -Dandy, but if I've not gound ome by say 20th June I may also have to do the Hong Kong thing. So how does that work? Where does one go? I'm irish - is it the same place for all?

without the physical FEC it may be that the applicant has to start over with another visa ....
yes, and L visa which one can start over with on the mainland. and, yes, there's apparently no need to leave china, since my new employer has also confirmed that. my L is according to my new employer going to be "easily" converted into an RP (in another location) again.

FECs issue of who's to keep it is quite interesting. employers want it probably 'cause you're not welcome in the same city. i think that "unwelcome in the same city" was a few years back my very first post on daves. in any case, the booklet is for one year and it is supposed to expire with the end of your contract. i really don't know what the fuss is about with the FEC. and, my local PSB that i've just converted from RP to L has not asked for it at all.

cheers and beers to FECs that can be issued and re-issued on mainland as well as cheers and beers to the improtance of either keepin'em or givin'em up to authorities/employers/wives/girlfriends etc Smile

d moon,
Ur lucky...ur FAO gots mo guanxi than mine!

Because my RP ends in July, and my new contract will not start until Sept., I have two options.

1) go back to my homeland and get a z visa with their paperwork.
(which i was not planning)

Or

2) go to HK and get the L, and then they will switch it over, which my FAO added, there is no guarantee how smooth it will go! ha.

What a pain in the A**!

IS anyone else besides d moon and I having this issue???

Dear Trekker,

They are NOT being at all helpful to you. Generally speaking, in all my years in China, most schools will bridge the difference between the old visa and the new visa with no problems at all as it makes it so much easier for them in terms of less paperwork, etc., etc.

If you were to change your mind about the job, you would still have more than enough time to find an even better -- and more amenable -- job in Guangzhou.

All the best,

Xiao

Xiao,

I've started looking...
Any suggestions accepted.

Btw, if anyone knows of a credible recruiter...
(there was a post a while ago re: that, but I don't feel like searching for it!)

I don't know, we'll see what happens. It's possible their may just be more hoops to jump through. I will keep you posted and let you know how things are proceeding.
