|
|
| I've spent the last 9 months on an exchange program in Japan, and as I'll be graduating soon, I would like to come back and teach English. I'm a linguistics major, and I've been thinking about teaching English for a while. However, I somehow got a girlfriend while being here, so it's only natural that I'd like to be placed somewhere close to where she lives. I've heard that it's not a good idea to mention anything like a girlfriend, as it'll be assumed that you're looking for an easy way to spend time with your significant other. However, she lives in a somewhat rural area, so I'm not sure if there are any excuses I could give. I would probably still take the job even if I'm placed somewhere on the opposite of the country, but I was just wondering what I should say. Any ideas? Thanks! |

| Rural areas are often unwanted by newbies, so employers would be happy to hear you want to be placed there. If you are pressed for a reason, tell them why you like it there. Leave "girlfriend" out of the conversation. If anything, just say you have friends (plural) there. |

Invite your students and your girlfriend to the same restaurant. Then switch between them by excusing yourself to "the bathroom."
That plan never fails. |

Thank you, Glenski! I'll give it a shot.
Also, your plan intrigues me, Suwon. It sounds foolproof... |
