Hi...this is just a bit of a heads up for this particular acadamy---Top/Avalon in Chungju City. The owners of this institution are very disrespectful to forgein teachers. They will curse at you and constantly bash your performance...even when you are doing a great job and parents are very happy with what is happening in the classroom. If your good at taking abuse and are willing to be a "yes" man or woman then you will probably have no issues. Also, you only get paid for the hours you teach...not the 3-4 hours you sit there at work because it is mandatory. It's supposed to be for prep work and meetings...but meetings are very short and we finish our prep within an hour.
In addition, they won't pay you overtime. I've been here for 3 months and have taught overtime (not including the 3-4 hours of just sitting around)and never got paid...neither did any of the other foreign teachers.
I finally had enough and according to contract told them I would be giving them my 60 day notice...the next day...the director called me into the office and in front of all of my peers...proceeded to try to humiliate me and disrespect me. I was told to leave and that I had to vacate the apartment the next day. Oh, I haven't gotten paid for my last month of work and I've yet to recieve my diplomas (been asking for them for the past 2 1/2 months (apparently this has happened a few times before). Fortunately I have a F-4 visa so I can just walk...but the other teachers are stuck. One gave his 30 day notice and the other 4 only have a few months left.
I hope this will keep others from falling into this position. Good luck.

An old boxing adage: "Protect yourself at all times". The best protection is prevention.

Just curious? With the school year so close to an end (??) and in such a 'disrespectful work environment' why would anyone give notice now rather than from the safety of his/her home or new country?
