|
|
Hello,
I am in the US and have a cellphone. I have never made any international calls before. I am trying to arrange a CELTA interview with someone in Thailand. What is the best (cheapest) way to do this? I have searched for pre-paid calling cards online. I have seen some with rates such as 1.4 cents a minute. Has anyone tried these? Has anyone used sites like asiancallingcards dot com?
Thanks. |

Since you are on the computer, why not download Skype software and make your phone calls for basically nothing? Most of my skype voip calls are just as clear as any cell phone or fixed line calls, sometimes better (cell signals often seem very weak).
The only thing you will need other than the software is a headset with microphone.

EXCELLENT ADVICE!!!!
Also, even if you don't have a headset/microphone you can use your skype account FROM your CELLPHONE for FREE!!!! Basically, if you are in the States you can set up a skype account for free. Once you do that, put $10 on it with a credit card or paypal and Skype will give you a free local number to call FROM your cellphone. You call the number (just counts as a regular local call) and from there you can call international using the same rates you would from your Skype account online. Does that make sense?? Ill try to find a link.... I used to call Thailand with those super-cheap callingcards and they quaility was terrible and always dropped, but that was over 6 years ago, so I'm sure they might have changed for the better... I would go the Skype route...

ps, the skype rate per minute to a BangKoK landline is about 6 cents per minute and about 12 cents per minute to a cellphone/handphone... |

It's worth it to inquire if they have a Skype account. I know of at least three schools that conduct their interviews this way (and I'm sure there are more). That's how I did mine. This way, if you download Skype and get a username, you can speak with each other for free. Yes - free.
And if you don't have the means (laptop, headset..), you can always just go to an internet cafe. |

We're in the States, finding an internet cafe is like trying to find a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow... (meaning they hardly exist over here...) |

While Skype is an option, international calling cards are available in Rite-Aid, Wal-mart, and many local quicky marts. |
