it is as they have begun to have a shortfall of teachers after their recruitment drives in their preferred countries, such as England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and also the far-flung fringes of the 'English-speaking' world, such as Scotland and India. |
Please provide a link or documentation----- you honestly believe that teachers from India hold a higher rank than those from the US?? You really are a curmudgeon aren't you. |
Are you suggesting that Indians are somehow 'below' or 'inferior' to Americans? Perhaps you can provide a link or documentation to the contrary.

The NET provides interviews in Vancouver--which is a stones throw from the west coast--by your logic--if interviews were held in San Fran then it would be a reflection of how shoddy Canadian teachers are. |
Exactly, the EDB does not recruit in the US, for the simple reason that Amercians are not desired. |

Did you mean "boost" or "boast" mate---just clarifying--- because you gave me a proper lashing over some of my grammatical errors on a separate post. Just wanted to be clear. You obviously have high standards; just making sure that you adhere to them as well. |
I meant and wrote 'boast'. It is generally considered bad form to change someone's words when you quote them. It seems clear to me that you get your knickers in a twist far too quickly. Thus it is also clear that you are not suited to Hong Kong. By the way, lexical items would not normally come under the definition of grammar. |

And for your information, I STEM - as you would say - from the same neighborhood where George H W Bush raised his family in Houston before he left the private sector for his career in politics and public service. So, no wheels underneath the house I grew up in. |
Though I see you picked up on the Texas racism though. And, again, stemming from the same neck of the woods as Bush is not something all too many people would normally boast of on a public forum. Maybe it is best for you that you don't stand a chance of getting a job in Hong Kong for Bush and the cronies who supported him for so long (and who voted him in twice) are not exactly welcome here. You will find the rest of the world is quite different from Texas. |

Parents and principals only take Yanks if they have to out of sheer desperation. This is as if a child uses the US English they have learned from a teacher from the US in an exam in HK they will fail. HK is an ex-British colony and British English is standard. In British English US sentences such as 'Did you go to Korea yet?' are downright ungrammatical and will be marked as wrong in both written and spoken examinations. In British English it must either be 'Have you been to Korea yet?' or 'Did you go to Korea?', depending of course on prior real-world knowledge. The same holds for lexical items and pronunciation, particularly vowels. They also don't like the use of 'like' that Americans make. If I recall correctly there is even a morbid joke about it in some textbook. A US guy falls into the river and shouts, "Like, help!".
HK parents are unenlightened snobs and they believe that US English is intrinsically inferior. This dislike for US teachers is reflected in the low percentage of NETs from the US. Perhaps if you has been to MIT or Harvard you may stand a chance but the 'top 25' is bit of a long shot. |
This is complete nonsense. |
And it's still nonsense, I just can't be bothered syphoning out the 'complete' nonsense from the 'lesser' variety, and simply don't have time, so lump it all together.
"Parents and principals only take Yanks if they have to out of sheer desperation."
This is nonsense. Of course there are differences between American and British English - we all know that. But it's not too difficult for a teacher to get his/her head around those differences, so it would require a pretty dumb panel head or school principal to reject a teacher on such simplistic grounds. It may have been the case once, but not any longer. |
|
The only nonsense here is your suggesting that it is nonsense. Perhaps you are not aware. Perhaps it is as you do not teach in HK, but there is not exactly a shortage of dumb panel heads and principals in HK. Indeed, it seems to be a prerequisite for such posts. Indeed, it seems from current reports in the media that the vast majority of people in such posts actually suffer from some form or another of mental illness.
Let's face it, you are just angry and have thrown your rattle out of your pram because so many are putting you straight on your (racist and anti-PRC) suggestion that the very idea that some parts of China could soon overtake HK is laughable:

This is also utter nonsense, and typical of your seeming desire to try and make someone feel they have little chance of succeeeding here. |
|
Apart from the nonsense spelling of 'succeeding', the only utter nonsense here is your suggesting that it is utter nonsense. It seems to me that you've been editing for the government and/or have been cocooned out there on Laaah-ma Island for far too long and have simply lost touch with reality. The truth of the matter is that very few people that dream of working in HK do have the slightest chance of securing employment as a teacher here. |

bogey boy
You have confused father and son. "41" was only elected one time. He and his son are two entirely differnt individuals
I'm beginning to think you are what is referred to as an FBH in Korea.
FAILURE BACK HOME.
Whether you like it or not, the HK Net programme is doing recruiting in not only the city by the bay but the the greatest one on earth,as well. (That would be San Francisco in case your geography is as abysmal as your attituded). When one is a trained educator, one can successfully use whatever textbooks their school provides for them. Thus, it really doesn't matter what English speaking country a teacher is from if they are following the provided curriculum.
As it so happens a freind of mine who teaches in Seoul is from Hong Kong and was educated at Brown University and attended one of America's most well respected boarding schools. According to Patricia, many parents in Hong Kong would like to see MORE teachers from North America. She went on to tell me that she has a Canadian friend teaching as an SNET who also makes large sums of money doing private tutoring to prepare HK students for the SAT (This Canadian teacher attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill - another GLOBALLY RESPECTED US University)
Your rant compelled me to get her input on the matter.
So, whether you like it or not,,,, The Yanks are Coming!!!!!
If Marco's wife has been teaching in HK for such a long time, she MUST BE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT!!! |

That has to be a flat out lie. I also saw your mistake before you changed it and then posted this latest whopper.

Pretty clear now that Bogey can't even be trusted to not tamper with his own words, further evidence of his proclivity towards inaccuracy, exaggeration, etc. |

Can't you come up w/anything better to accuse someone of than racism?
Or is it simply what you resort to when someone calls you out for all your idiocy and hatred.
My friend from Hong Kong who works in Seoul has a sister who is a child psychologist in Hong Kong. Shall I get her name and number for you?
I feel quite comfortable in concluding that all who read your posts would consider you childish and adolescent.
And as someone said about you in another thread. "You have a screw loose"
Thus, maybe my friends sister could assist you with your mental afflictions. BTW, she attended Harvard for her Phd!!! |

Either that or HK is simply becoming more desperate.
You seem to like capital letters. Is that similar to small men liking large cars? |

It seems pretty obvious then that you have far too much time on your hands. Is business really that bad at your hack tutorial centre? |

So--- you've been called out (and proven to be) a hypocrite when it comes to being a spelling an grammar Nazi--and your response is that someone has too much time on their hands???!!!!! Classic--- you sound like a petulant child.

No--- YOU suggested that North American teachers were inferior. I would like to see a link provided that this is have been shown to be true or proven. Your statement--you back it up. You also have stated that you find HK to be overly racist towards those that are not "white"-- yet an Indian would fare better than an American? No--not all Americans are white--but you get the idea.
And yes--there is recruitment in San Fran an NYC----I've already explained this to you.
Are you a 14 year old HK local trying to keep people from coming to your city, or just the local old man that doesn't want kids on his lawn?[/quote] |

Huh? I've explained that I've already lived in HK for over 2 years. Enjoyed it immensely. So because I got my knickers in a twist over your piss poor spelling--I shouldn't come? Or because you were reprimanded after calling me out on a mistype in my grammar and you yourself looked foolish for doing the same? Oh--sorry--yours was spelling while mine was grammar. Should a "good" teacher overlook that? |

I have two questions.
1) Why are people still responding to Bertrand's posts? It IS the infamous Bertrand. He contributes nothing to the forum except mild entertainment, entertainment which quickly dissolves into bitterness.
2) Why are the moderators not more vigilant in kicking him out?????? I hate to use the cliche "troll." I do not care if someone agrees with my positions or not, but Bertrand/Boogy posts nonsense, and he stifles meaningful discussion!! |

wow, bogey, it's ok to make spelling mistakes but for you to take the time out to change a mistake because someone had caught you is pretty embarrassing. Not to mention calling someone out for having too much time on their hands when you are MR. LOOK FOR SPELLING ERRORS.
I'm starting to wonder if Bogey is a teacher at all. He apparently has plenty of time to check this site and I would be more than interested to see the kind of students who pay money to be taught by bogey. I imagine his lesson plans consist only of the following marker sentences "Your English is terrible. You will never attain a Native English Speakers' English abilities so please stop studying this language."
It would be better if he always replied with "You guys have no chance of getting a teaching job in Hong Kong so don't even try." At least then we don't have to get aggravated over his posts. |
