I can tell you now, the joke "why did the woman have a black eye? Because she had to be told twice" never, ever gets any laughs.

Maybe I'm being obtuse, but I HOPE it doesn't get any laughs...it's not funny. That's psycho, in a bad way.

bottom line, when you are observed, they have to say SOMETHING to you after wards, whether it's crap or not. otherwise, what's the point of having future inspections? they gotta keep you on your toes, or at least do their best to try.

it's like hiring a consultant. you pay him all this money, and even if he doesn't have any ideas, he'll make them up to justify all the dough you paid him to be there.

there are so many methods to teaching english, and everybody learns differently, so to stick with one method, to argue that you should have done more of this or less of that, it's generally a bunch of bullocks.

i always sit through the post-observation meetings with little to no regard as to what is being said to me. my students learn, they like me, and I keep the school cash register full......that makes me a good teacher.

I'm objective enough to know when I hear something useful. When I do I take it on board although I self evaluate all the time. I think a decent teacher knows when something's right and equally when something is wrong.

Dam straight! 90% of the Dos' are bitter Polish women with a chip on their shoulder.

I've dealt with at least a dozen of them during my tenure here and outlived all of them.

About 5% of the advice I've received over the years is actually useful and practical in a classroom setting.

The actual students are the best Dos'.These are the only people I care about or listen to on the job.

That's a bit unfair, I think. The majority of the DOSes I've met were actually really nice women. Also, I know as many male as female DOSes. And in fact, the worst DOS I have dealt with was a guy... Since that encounter, I have not taken a single course at that school. No black PR here, though Wink

No you don't and no it isn't. The DOS is probably more used to dealing with teachers who need to walk about so as to keep their breath away from the students.

Probably because in Poland they often simply are rubbish. My favourite was the DOS who started by criticising the pens I had used on the whiteboard as being "very noisy".


This is not necessarily true.
