Hi Guys
I am a 26 year old non-white South African teacher based in Korea, I have been dating an amazing Taiwanese girl for the last 6 months and have flown over many times. I would like to relocate to Taiwan at the end of my current contract which ends August 31st however I was wondering what are the chances of me getting a job around that time?
I don't want to not have a job and have to go back to South Africa or Ireland (Dual citizenship) at the end of my contract and be separated from my girlfriend. My manager wants me to renew here in Korea and has given me the option of doing so for 6 months just in case next year March might be a better time to look for jobs. Do you think I should renew my contract in Korea or take a chance and wait to look for a job in Taiwan closer to the end of my contract?
The other disclaimer I should make is that I need to tell my manager by the end of this week whether I will renew or not. |

| Keep you gig in Korea. Taiwan is horribly slow and pay is eroding from what I've seen. Might be better if the economy turns around in six months. |

| What do you mean by horribly slow? If you mean there isn't alot to do well I don't mind that and as for the salary I have worked it out to be roughly the same in Korea won. |

Hi Crianp
I believe it's not as easy to find teaching jobs in Taiwan this year, though there are still plenty of opportunities. From what I hear there are more opportunities outside of Taipei, in places like Hsinchu, Taichung or Ilan.
I guess August mightn't be a bad time to move here. But other teachers on this site should be able to give you some advice about the school terms and when the most recruitment is done.
Hope this helps some
Tony
