I have been "offered" a job at this school, but all they sent me was the first part of the contract, the boilerplate one without any details, except for how much they are going to pay me.

I have asked them to send me the appendix, which is the part of the contract which really tells you what you need to know:
i.e. how many hours you will work, reimbursement for airfare, overtime etc. I've worked before in China so I know. They tell me they can't send it to me until I get to China.

They also tell me this copy of a boilerplate contract without my name on it is sufficient to take to the Chinese consulate and get my visa. I know this is nonsense as the last time I had a letter couriered to me.

So, why am I even bothering with these people? Because I really want to work in Szechuan and the salary is good.

Has anyone had this experience or heard of this school. I am tempted to tell them that if they don't send my the proper contract with an appendix, I can't work for them.

Thanks for any ideas.

Be aware of this school. It is not close to Chengdu city, and the performance of the students there is poor. As far as I know, they cant keep teacher for long time.

Had a colleague who used to work at Guangya. The pay is bad for an IB school and there seems to be a fair turnover of teachers. The teacher here used to com, plain about the crappy weather and isolation in Dujiangyan, and it is something to think about.

I don't know much more about the school, but a few questions about conditions other than those stated int he standard contract might be answered by contacting a former teacher, or asking soem straight questions in your e mails.

"They tell me they can't send it to me until I get to China."

That is a lie, plain and simple. I wouldn't consider a job with them. You are obviously being set up for a major rip off. Keep looking.

I forgot to mention that the head of this school has a powerful background in Chinese army, so whatever he does to you, you have to live with. They dont know how to respect people and they dont like to hear different voice.

You don't need the contract to get the visa - but you do need other documentation such as the Invitation letter from the school to appy for the Z visa. Which is the visa that you need to make sure they are qualified to give you. Just have a look at the Chinese consulate/embassy in your country and if you look under the Z visa it will tell you exactly what you need to have in order to apply.

Why would you insist in working for a school that cannot provide a SAFEA contract?

As a SAFEA contracts provides for no real protection, I prefer to sign a contract designed after a western agreement model.the amendments (often listed on another sheet) that are not featured in a SAFEA contract will often not be considered by SAFEA, Labor Board or the
Courts.

I do not know what SAFEA from Beijing has done to you, it sound that you really enjoy bashing this entity.

Then:
"that are not featured in a SAFEA contract will often not be considered by SAFEA"
= nonsense, providing that they "provides no real protection"

I would say they are here on this site for many reasons .... but the ability to discern if a post is valuable for the reader really should be up to the reader...

The SAFEA contract is the main body .... and the addendums is where the particulars of a agreement are noted....it is not considered part of the contract..many times SAFEA doesnt even want to see it.. and courts will often not consider it as well...adds up to no protection....did u understand this time....

SAFEA has little to do with my employment as I dont sign SAFEA contracts....and informing you of the way it works is hardly bashing...but anyone who depends on SAFEA to work out the jams.. could well be in for a ruff discovery...however .. some have posted SAFEA riding in to save the day (always glad to hear that but, in all my years in China I have yet to see hide nor hair of a SAFEA hero riding in with a white hat on top of his little pointy asian head) but as they have no real punitive authority, if an owner doesnt want to accept mediation.. they just say no...same goes for the labor department mediation....and courts can refuse to hear your claim...

Now the question remains if you are here to read constructive comments or to deliver short one liners ... try learning stead of burnin ....

Bottom line ... and to educate some of us a bit further, have you ever -in your years in China- experienced first hand problem(s) with a SAFEA contract, or have you, and from day one, rebutted all SAFEA contracts, because and from your own authority are declaring all over the forum that SAFEA contracts ARE NOT worthy.
