Here is my situation, I am married with one infant son and want to earn a CELTA, and teach in Asia. I have an undergraduate degree in Finance and a Masters of Business Administration.
What country and school is the best value?
Which countries will allow me to bring my family with me after I have secured a teaching position?
Which countries pay well enough to support a family?
My wife is a Certified Nursing Assistant, in which countries would she have employment opportunities? She has a Permanent Resident Card (Greencard) but carries a Filipino passport. |

I don't want to be negative, but I'm in a similar boat, trying to leave Peru with my Peruvian husband. I've been told by more than a few schools that they won't even get him a visa due to his nationality. Others say that they won't get him a visa because he's not going to be working. HOnestly, I think you hve a better chance simply because you're the (male) native speaker.
Monneywise, it might be tough to mkae ends meet if you work and your wife doesn't. HAving a kid complicates things.
The one advantage that you have is that you're the native speaker, I find it difficult to think that I would work and my husband stay home. Asian contries are a good bet, I know that CHina and Korea, you could get visas for your wife. THough in Korea you'll be in cramped living conditions.
Here's the realistic view, many jobs in Asia pay between 500 and 2500usd, and most are towards the lower end. I'd apply to schools, wait for a reply and then tell them about your fmaily, that's what I'm doing. In Asia, high paying ones are Taiwan, Japan and Korea, but cost of living is also high. For example, I've been offered 1800 in Korea and 1500 in CHina, I'm taking the latter for a couple of reasons, one is the lower cost of living, two is that China might be easier to pick up private students legally.
For your wife to work, she would have to speak the language, or try to get into an English speaking hospital, ones that cater to expats, like here we have British hostpitals, American ones, though competition is tough. It's worth a try.
About supporting a family, how long do you want to do this? Forever? or just a yer or two? YOu might have to use savings, or serioulsy learn how to live like the locals.
Schools, well intl schools, but I don't thinkt hat you qualify, after that cram schools tend to pay a lot, but you work a lot. Language schools, and at the bottom universities where you usually work a few hours, but may not make a lot.
See my PM to you. |
