Having recently waded through a mire of absurd preoccupation with salary in mad pursuit of some morsel of knowledge I had vainly hoped would remotely resemble an Eastern sage's variation on the philosophers' stone, I find myself wondering:
Can I make enough in China with a mere B.A. in English to survive enough to enjoy the fact I'm living in a city with a population of over 18 million? Can I make enough to maybe buy a drumset and put my 20 years of experience as a drummer to good use overseas and start a band during my off-hours as an English teacher?
If that's at all possible, then you can look forward to seeing me wander about the streets of Shanghai (most likely within the vicinity of a moving body of water) with a smile on my face.
Seriously, what else matters? You're living in a foreign country. What more can you ask for?

Yes you will!
In BJ, SH and even GZ, you will find bands eager to hire you on the spot! |

1) health insurance
2) retirement savings
3) a salary that actually matches inflation (doesn't apply to all teflers of course, but many salaries here are not rising with inflation) |
