Hi there,

Had an email from them yesterday. Just have a couple of questions but any information would be helpful as to be honest i know almost nothing about them. Is it a fair gig? Firstly they are offering 1800 GBP per month. Does anyone know about housing etc and if this is included? I have 6 years experience teaching in the gulf and a batchelors degree. Can I push for any more money?

many thanks.

No, you cannot push for more money.

Housing is included, but housing will be a Junior Officer's Quarter. That means you will get a room and an en suite toilet. If you are lucky, the furniture will not have cigarette burns in it, and the toilet will not be festooned with corroding pipes. You might also have a plug in the washbasin and a rose on the shower. If you are unlucky.....well, work it out.

That having been said, you will also have access to the facilities of an Officers' Mess - dining room; bar; snooker room; TV Room; swimming pool; sometimes tennis courts. Local papers will be delivered daily. At some RAFO messes laundry is free, at others you pay a nominal amount.
The food in the dining room is heavily subsibised - Messes are forbidden to make a profit on the food.

PM me for more details.

Hello.
Just an update on Royal Omani Airforce posts. I telephoned the recruiting officer to ask if they would accept an application from an Arabic speaking littleoldlady and they said that regrettably they couldn't because they don't have suitable accommodation for the ladies. There are times I wish I were a littleoldman. Laughing

Interesting.

Obviously they have now changed their policy. If you were already in Oman and could be regarded as a "local hire", then they might have a different view.

To my certain knowledge, because I have mey her, they have an OMani lady working as a teacher, butobviously she would not be accommodated in the mess.

Interesting thread.

A friend (lady) of mine got an offer from RAFO a couple of months back. About the accommodation, "No accommodation facilities provided for female spinster or married officers." I guess this means that accommodation is provided for Bachelors. Head scratching one, hey?
