Great place Cadiz, I really liked it. Has anyone tried teaching there ? How did it go?

Yes Cadiz is a great place, but not if you want to teach English. In fact, forget about the south of Spain....

My advice is go to Madrid if you want to teach English.

But Cadiz beaches are something to be marvelled at!

Hi Ava, most of Spain doesn't appeal to me much but this was one place that did. I spent some time in Madrid but I didn't like it much. Is that where you are now?

Boy, you really made my heart go bid-a-BOOM-bid-a-BOOM!
I love Cadiz - had one of my first teaching posts there in a great school called the Instituto de Idiomas Internacional (more or less). I still think about moving back there permanently. Do it! Fantastic town, not hot and dusty like Seville, lovely people, great weather, awesome bars, a carnival ot beat all carnivals, lots of culture (concerts, plays, courses). There are two types of teacher communities - the snobbish business English teachers who have to wear powersuits (Bluergh!), and a tiny group of others. There's not really an expat scene as the locals are so nice, you make friends in no time. Good opportunities for travelling in the area weekends - I bought a bike and would jump on the train with friends and get off somewhere and bike for ages, then have a leisurely lunch... I had most of my friends in Europe come stay at one stage or another - and they all loved it so much they go back too - in fact one is there right now.
Now I'm getting all gooey, I better quit. Embarassed

I was in Cadiz in mid-December last year and it was 18 C. The people were really relaxed and friendly and there were hardly any tourists. I am currently freezing my arse off in Geneva and am seriously tempted to make the move to Andalucia.

Hi,

I live and work in Andalucia, not Cadiz though. I love the pace of life down here. It is much more relaxed than Madrid.

The weather today (1 hour north of Granada) is 15 degrees - sunny but nippy!

I would definately recommend this area to work in. It is just a matter of finding a good language school - I was lucky!

Laura
