My contract, along with those of my colleagues, states that we are expected to work a maximum of 22 hours a week. It also requires that we be at the place of teaching at least 10 minutes before lessons begin.
Now in the rest of the of the civillised world I take this to mean "lesson hours".
That is A 45 minute period equals one hour.
Now as I want to hit the director with this (for him) unpalatable truth I would like to get a concensus here, hence the poll.

by contract, each teaching period is supposed to last for 40mn. More often than not, I end up teaching the kids far more than what they bargained for... but then again, I teach university students not teenagers or babies...

Mine are fifty min, with a ten min break.
I would vote, but it won't let me for some reason.

My contract states 20 lessons per week at 45 minutes per lesson. I had to make it very clear this year because last year my contract said 18 hours which could have obligated me to teach 27 classes at 40 minutes per.

This is an unanswerable poll,
An hour is an hour = 60 minutes,
A lessen or period is what each school schedules the lessens to last.
It is either an hour or a lessen / period, a lessen period hour is an hour.

This is a good example of getting the details of contracts sorted out Before they are signed.

I think if you signed to Teach for 22 hours, with 10 minutes lead time,
Your name is on the contract that states you will Teach 22 Hours, not periods.

Hopefully for you, they are thinking an hour of teaching is 1 period.
But if they bust out the calculator to figure out how many periods add up to 22 hours, youre Stuck with it.

The rest of the world matters little After you signed Your Agreement to comply with the terms specified. The Truth is written In the contract.

That said, I signed a contract stating I will work a max of 16 - 40 minute class Periods a week at a middle school, with the option of doing extra classes for a fee. I only have 14 though, including English corner 5 days a week. At the end of the month, my classes are tallied & Cant be over 16 without my prior OK & extra pay.

I'll cast a vote for the last one (under 50 min). My classes are 40 each, and was aware of that before signing. I've got more than enough hours I need, but the problem is there's big gaps between them.

It'll be like, teach a 40 min class, 3 hour break, 2 more classes, another 1 hour break, etc.

If the classes were all together I could split out of this suburban bore and head downtown, but only a 2-3 hour break makes that impossible.
