...for Bond Institute. This sounds like a really good deal but I need to know more, not so much about the job but about the place and how far 5,000 RMB will go there. |

There have been several threads on BOND over the past two years or so, one fairly recently.
The school does make a good impression. I don't know how it all works out in reality.
Zhongshan is fairly well developed and a little boring but so much nicer to behold than a town developed before the 1980's. |

Following is 2nd hand infomation
Bond are still learning what consultation means.
They are a bit wobbly on some contract issues check for areas relating to training/probabtion period.
Have everthing very tight, I don't think they are any worse than most Chinese schools and probably better than quite a few.
They lose about a teacher a month. |

I'm really very interested in this job? Is there anything here that should ring alarm bells?
Hello Rebecca and Richard,
Thank you for your kind and prompt reply.
With reference to your questions, I would like to answer as follows:
1) I would like to confirm and guarantee that you two will definitely
based
in Zhongshan. As a matter of fact, I have attached a copy of our
contract,
which I hope that you will download and print, sign them and send the
hard
copies to us at:
When we receive them, we will sign and return them to you for
reconfirmation.
Having understood your experience in teaching adults, we will make sure
that you teach adult classes or secondary school children aged between
15
and 18. We can also make sure that you have the same two days off and
that
you have fairly similar timetable.
2) If you are available to start at from the 1st August, we would
like
to suggest that the induction course be available and it be a
one-week-long
course.
3) Having understood your personal situation, we will make sure that
you
two live together in your own private ( non-shared ) apartment unit
fully
furnished and well-equipped with things such as fridge, washing machine
and
Internet connection etc. You could include all this into the contract
to
feel reassured.
4) The usual practice is that: you enter HK visa-free, get your visa at
our
well-connected visa office located at Room 707, New Mandarin Plaza,
Tower
B, No. 14 Science Museum Road, TsimTshaTsui, Kowloon, HK. All you need
to
do is to show up, lodge the passport with a photo, pay the fee of
around
HK$400. The visa is ready to be picked up on the same day. The visa fee
is
reimbursed at the end of six months. Please refer to the contract.
5) Living expenses are really low in Zhongshan. For example, a lunch
costs
only RMB5 to 6 yuan ( equal to GBP0.35 pence ). Ferry to HK : RMB180
equal
to GBP12. pounds. Plane to Shanghai: RMB800 equal to GBP70 pounds. etc.
I hope that my answers are full and complete. And I look forward to
hearing
from you soon.
Regards
In particular, is it worth asking for more money (the offer is 5,000), and if so what is the most effective and diplomatic way to go about it? |
