Hello all,
I am coming to Vietnam in July and would like to know what the soccer/futbol scene is there. I prefer to play in pick-up or league games outdoors but will play indoor if that is all is available. Are games easy to find or is there a website for certain cities, i.e. Hanoi or HCMC?

Not sure about joining a team to play with, but you can watch Vietnam's V-League games usually held on Sundays. Hanoi, Saigon, Da Nang, Hai Phong and other cities all have teams. Tickets are really cheap, in Da Nang it's free for foreigners. Games only draw in vietnamese men, so foreigners (and women) are a real treat.
You can google V-League and check out the fixtures.

Sport in Hanoi

Hi cbasheville;

Watching a V-League Game in vietnam is both hard and easy. Easy because the ticket is quite cheap, and games are held quite frequently. Hard because too many people want to buy those tickets, ha ha (but it's real).
I don't know about joining a game in Hanoi, especially football or soccer, but for tennis, badminton, swimming, golf, it is very common for foreigners to join in.
The only time I watched a foreigner playing football is when I worked in Nguyen Viet Xuan Orphan School in Hanoi, and my international volunteer friend joined the local team to play. However, if you can get a local friend, I think you still got a chance to play soccer or football.

While watching games is great, I was really hoping to hear there was an expat community of players. Thank you for the information.

sorry, but i don't know what all the fuss is about?

if u google......"international football in saigon".....hey presto!

if u replace saigon with hanoi......abra-abra-cadabra, i want to reach out and grab ya!

your going to have to solve far tougher problems in vietnam than find out where expats play competitive football?

no thanks needed!

i could of answered ur question on the first day u posted, but i wanted to see how this thread panned out.

enough of this......

Hitting the Johnnie Walker again?

Perfectly legitimate question, no need for your cynical, condescending crap.

No fuss here. I actually saw the SIFL website but it mentions nothing of pick-up games. While I would love to join a league and travel the country playing sports this is not a realistic option. Instead I was just looking for a friendly game to join occasionally. Where is the website for that?

How does a simple innocent question about soccer get turned into a ridiculous debate about playing with each others *beep*? You act as if I have been sitting here behind my computer screen waiting for an answer to pop out at me. Jayasia you are a douchbag with obviously nothing else to do.

I've lived in Hanoi for three years and found it easy to join a game, what the big deal@@@

"I don't know about joining a game in Hanoi, especially football or soccer"
is quoted from your last post.
Then you say, "I've lived in Hanoi for three years and found it easy to join a game, what the big deal"

????
