I always assumed the average rate was about 50zl per hour, but I hear of former collegues from the British Council sayng they charge upto 100 zt!
I know of a reputable Polish English teacher who charges 80 zt
I charge between those two extremes, but just wondered what other posters charge... |

If they want an invoice it is 85zl per 45-minute hour. If they don't, it's 100zl per 60-minute hour.
Why would you want to charge 50zl per hour when you can earn more than that teaching for a school for 45 minutes? |

100zl for 60 minutes seem a bit steep, but if someone is suckerish enough to pay it..............
Personally,I charge 50zl for 60 minutes but I'm not in Warsaw.
I think 50-60 zl is a fair price per 60 minutes. |

Not really. If they go to a school, they'll pay at least 90zl for 45 minutes with a decent native. |

I was charging 60zl for 50 mins. If they took two weekly classes then I charged them 100zl total (a discount of 20zl).
But frankly, I am not interested in doing it anymore, due to the unreliability of it. Those who can pay don't have the time, those who can't pay and do have the time, well... can't pay! |

When I was in Warsaw (2004-2007), I always charged 60Z for 60 minutes, but then I only took on friends of friends type students. My expat friends all charged between 60 and 80. Polish charged a minimum of 40 up to 60. |

So that's how much you charge for privates, but how much do you charge for corporals and sergeants? |

Right.

For what it's worth, my school charges way more than that.
I reason out prices using the same train of thought. If they go to a school, what would they pay. Then I think about the fact that having private lessons allows the student to get exactly what they want, no book to follow, no material they couldn't care less about, and that justifies my "high prices". |

I'd say that's a pretty reasonable price for Warsaw. Charging 50zl /hr is definitely pointless - if you include prep time, travel and any other expenses like copies of work book/exercises or what not you are actually making a lot less than the acceptable minimum at a school.
80zl is fairly easy to get right now.
I also agree with Khrystene, at this point I'm trying to ween off of privates, keeping only the reliable ones. |

I got two kids.... small kids, so privates at my place are out of the question. Besides, most of my privates are in-company, so it's usually at an office or a conference room. I do the occasional coffee place or a pub conversations too. |

I learn something new every day!
That is a bit different from around here. The people that I know that do privates generally do it at home and just have a stream of people coming into their homes.
Of course you need to charge more--lots more if you have to do the running around! You can't begin to get very many in a row because of travel constraints. The people who do it around here just schedule the students to come to them one right after the other. |

Would you charge more for a small group of students?
I have a potential client who is putting together a group of 10 year old boys (2-4 sts) and needs a teacher. To me, it seems the hourly rate should reflect the number of students, although I would not charge 80zl per hour x number of sts, probably just 40 or 50. |

I would charge a standard rate for you being there, ex. 120 PLN/hr. Then I would take all of the money up front for the month. Good Luck with the boys!! |
