I can't PM yet - but could you message me with the school name? I am looking for work in the areas around Shanghai, Hangzhou, or Suzhou, and any help finding reputable schools in those areas would be great!

I would like to second this for myself. Regrettably I cannot PM yet either.

I'm excited to see this thread though. It's been slightly disheartening after lurking these forums for so long and seeing not many positives about work in China. For every possible employer I come across and throw in to the Search function here, I find at least five complaints.

I think what I'd like to ask all of you who have had experience, if I may, is what should one consider when looking at these job advertisements? What should be obvious signs of "Don't work here!"? Or, to be more positive, what would be a sign of "Apply for this job ASAP!"? Smile

Thanks ahead of time and congratulations to all of you who are going on to their nth year working in China.

Don't put too much stock in the negative posts on here. If you scan this forum, like most others, most of the posts are made by a small minority with some fresh faces popping up a couple of times per year. I'd be willing to bet that 95% of the FTs in China rarely if ever visit this board. I started visiting this forum in 2001, posted rarely, and then didn't come back for awhile as I had nothing to contribute.

Some things you should know about the jobs in China: most of them are the same, many of the schools look the same, many students behave the same way, the admin works by the same rule book almost everywhere, and most of the job benefits are the same. The things that can separate a good job from a bad job, for me, are:

1. does the school leave you alone to do your job and not interfere with your daily life?

2. the housing.

3. How does the school respond when you have a legitimate complaint?

These are things you usually won't find out till after you get the job but if you talk to someone already working at one of these places then you can get a good idea of how the school treats its employees. Then you can decide if you want to work there.

I can not pm either but I would love to know where everyone is working. It is always great knowing employees have stayed so long at the schools.
