OK here goes, I tried to do VS proud by reading the threads and finding the information for myself but I'm at a loss.
I have been working with teachanywhere.com to try to find a teaching position in UAE. I know that it's late in the hiring season and I'm at a disadvantage because I do not have an MA, just a teaching certificate a B-Ed and 3 years of ESL teaching experience. But they only seen to have about 5 schools for me to choose from, some are low salary, some have shared accommodations etc. I want to teach primary and choices seem to be very limited.
The problem is that I've seen on a lot of threads NOT to use a recruiter. So I've researched HCT, I'm not qualified, and CERT jobs, which only produced three openings for management jobs. I've also googled things like 'teach in UAE' and got recruiter websites and TESOL advertisements. I've read the sticky about recruiters and now I'm weary of their results.
So my question....how do I find a good job at a good school?
Are there some recruiters you would recommend?
Are there websites that list teaching positions directly from the schools that I am missing? |

Do a masters. This ain't the answer you probably wanted but no good schools will give you a job without one. you're really only going to get an 'ungood' job without one - can be nasty. |

Try Ras al Khaimer or Al Ain English Speaking Schools. You don't need a masters for either and you'll find their deals are ok. |

I found this website on another thread.
http://www.uaeinteract.com/education/collegesetc.asp
it lists a lot of schools in the UAE, however a lot of the school websites can not be found and some websites are all in Arabic.
Some of the websites are up to date and invite teachers to send their resumes. But they don't post any information such as qualifications needed, length of contract, salary etc. It seems like such a backwards way to find a teaching position, by applying first and asking for details later.
Isn't there some kind of website where schools post jobs including information and you apply directly to the school? |

Good job meggie!! You get to wear the star today. See, it wasn't completely wasted time because it helped you focus your questions.
Yes, wouldn't it be nice if there were one website with all the schools and links to apply directly... but... life is rarely that organized for us expat teachers.
First off... If you want to teach in primary... you say you have your BA in education plus a teaching cert. Do you mean the official certification to teach in your home country's schools? Granted my experience was all tertiary, but it sounds like you have better credentials than most who come here to ask about jobs in the schools. That is usually more accepted in the schools than an MA - MAs are the tertiary entry credentials in the UAE for the better employers.
Did you try the Teachaway people who have been doing so much hiring lately for the Ministry positions?

****HURRAY I GET THE GOLD STAR!!! ***
Yes I am a certified teacher with a major in Early Childhood Education. Although I DID have to look up tertiary, The Tertiary is a term for a geologic period 65 million to 1.6 million years ago lol not too sure what you meant by that other then the old way of doing things.
Anyway I did find another website today....
http://www.unr.edu/tesol/RCclass/uae2.html
It gives lots of information and websites to look at but once again I was directed to individual schools that I know nothing about.
I am surprised that you are recommending teachaway, I have read posts where you recommend NOT using recruiters. However I'm afraid I'm going to have to in order to sort through everything. |

I think if you look up tertiary education (as opposed to secondary education and primary education) the definition should come up as post K-12 (or college/university). Just another nasty example of how the English language trips up the best of us
ADEC appears to be one of the few employers using a recruiter - none of the others use them on a regular basis although a recent poster said HCT does, however, I've worked with HCT for 8 years and never met anyone who was hired that way (or indeed, even realized that HCT did so) - but again, I was hired 8 years ago so it wasn't really on the radar for me.
All the better K-12 schools hire directly - again this is second hand info from friends who work there and the times they are a changin' (cue Bob Dylan song here) |

Teachanywhere hires for many of the local schools and Teachaway is hiring for the ADEC national schools. Try both and come back to this forum to ask about any of the local schools as many are discussed here and some are considered less than good.the local schools |

the English speaking school route is the best you can hope for.
Since you have a B ed and a teaching certificate you can get a job, but you won't get any tertiary positions w/out the MA. |

I think helen1 made clear that I wasn't talking about my birth year...
And yes, I am famous for disliking recruiters and the recruiter system. But right now the major amount of teaching jobs at the primary/secondary levels are through recruiters to work on this big contract. Zoot and Carlen are good sources for information on these positions.
So, I can go back to sleep and leave you in good hands.

Try http://www.reed.co.uk
Use Abu Dhabi as a search term , education as the sector. Quite a few jobs there. |
I found this job on this site (among those for 50,000dhs/month project managers)
SALARY 20,000 Dhs/month
A part-time Evening Secretary to work the hours 5.00pm - 10.00pm.
Previous Legal experience is ESSENTIAL for this role together with excellent typing and computer skills.
You will be responsible for producing and amending lengthy documents together with diary management and administrative duties.
And an ESL teacher with a masters gets.... for teaching....hours!
I'm off to brush up on my typing speed and diary management skills. |

Yes... but you will also need legal background for this one, which is what is kicking up the salary.
But, no one goes into education for the big bucks, do they?
