For what it is worth..I am a Brit and would normally say.."I am going into hospital"...this would mean that I would be going in there for some kind of treatment. But I find it perfectly acceptable to say."You are sick..you should go to hospital".
I find the whole American/Brit English debate quite interesting..there are differences in usages and structures of both grammar and vocab..drug store/chemist...and I see both as equally valid. What I find distressing is people who somehow claim that there version is the only valid one. |

The soft, moist, squelchy flesh of an over-gassed red apple which has been left for more than a day in the open air...that's squidgy and it sets my teeth on edge, like chewing nylon school jumpers and fingers on blackboards. I'm not kidding, even explaining it is making my mouth convulse. Eeeekkkkkk |

\Squelch\, v. i. [Perh. imitative. Cf. {Squelch}.]
To make a sound like that made by the feet of one walking in
mud or slush; to make a kind of swashing sound; also, to move
with such a sound. |
