Make chickens grow faster? Most of the ones on sale in Lulus, Spinney's, Choitrams etc. are too small to have been taken from their mothers! Or maybe we just grow them bigger back home (neanderthal chickens) |

| It's a lot cheaper to live in the UAE than in Qatar. Things are often less expensive. My weekly grocery bill there was much higher than it is here. |

Funny you should ask that. Where I live, the costs are averaged out...so a family of nine pays the same as a family of one. Go figure! |

depends where you live and how many people you live with. A family of 5 living in a villa with a pool using air con in all rooms could pay over 1500 dhs a month. A single person in an apartment block could get away with 150 dhs a month (or less). If your abode has its own a/c units, you pay for the cooling (expensive) and the fan. If you live in an apartment block, it'll be centrally cooled and you only pay the electricity that powers the fan - this can make a big difference to your monthly bill. Another way of cutting down on electricity is to reduce the light show. Almost everywhere I've been has had several heavy-duty chandalier in each room, plus backup wall lamps. Take out half of the 24 bulbs in the living room, entrance hall and main bedroom and you'll still have enough light to rival Coney Islands attractions. Take out 90% and you'll still be able to read.
one unit of electricity is 0.15 Dhs
one unit of water is 0.01 Dhs
no idea how much juice a unit gets you |

Interestingly, I've been in the ME for ten years and have never paid for electricity and water. It has always been included in the housing contract. |

Pretty accurate - buying imported, branded foodstuff is more expensive than at home but there are lots of cheaper local stuff. i'll add my bit to the above:
new illegal DVD from the people who knock on your door - 10 Dhs
local chocolate brand bars - 1.5
Indian meal - cheap but good restaurants - from SIX dhs for a filling lunch set
Pizza combo at any fast food joint - 15 dhs
KFC snack box (no drink) 11 dhs
deodorant - from 6 dhs (depends on how you wanna smell) |

I was there a bit longer than that... 3 countries (4 contracts)... and always had to pay. (water might have been covered in Kuwait, but not electric) I was at university level... how about you?
