Hi, Can anyone advise on the best (cheapest!) way/bank to use to make monthly transfers back from AD to Europe? Also, what's the best (again cheapest!) destination from AD for a nice exotic holiday! Cheers Chaps! |

Depends on how you define 'exotic'?
Muscat?
Bahrain?
India?
Sri Lanka?
Egypt?
Sana'a?
Zanzibar?
Depends on your interests... and you shop for bargains from the various airlines just like everywhere else.

I'm thinking soft, white sandy beaches, palm trees and clear, warm, blue waters. A place to completely relax with your soulmate.................. |

Then I can't help you at all... wouldn't walk across a street to go to a beach... I'd say that there are plenty of beaches and Palm trees in the UAE.
I left to see more traditional souqs and museums and tombs and temples and ruins.

set up a direct transfer account with your bank in uae to your destination bank and transfer your money on line...most have on line banking now a days...I have this set up in Saudi so imagine it can be done in UAE as well
An exotic holiday for R&R... Sri Lanka is the place to go! They have amazing beaches and interior jungles for hiking as well as amazing historical landmarks to visit...and is a short hop from the UAE and cheap... |

Mr Fawlty,
Compared with the extortionate rate charged by British Banks, almost anywhere in the Gulf is cheaper if you want to remit money. You might check out the rates being charged by your UAE Bank, and then compare those with the Oman UAE Exchange.
On the second point - other than during the Khareef, Salalah in Oman could offer what you want. Otherwise try Sri Lanka, or parts of INdia. Kerala is favoured by some, and one of my Indian colleagues has praised Pondicherri very highly. |

I vote for Sri Lanka or Vietnam - both are very cheap, food and beer is excellent (both in flavour and price) and there are options to take a break from the beach and go to the jungle/mountains/hills in both countries. |

The Maldives, if you say you want to relax with your 'soulmate'. It's very popular with couples. Mind you, there's not much to do there except for swimming, sunbathing, diving and reading. No TV in the room in many of the resorts - but all resorts have a communal TV room where you can watch the international news. Evening entertainment is available every night at all the hotels. The beaches are wonderful, and the sea is the bluest blue. |

cmp45, that sounds helpful, thank you. And now I just want to be on holiday! Those places sound wonderful! Thanks for your input, everyone! |

Torquay, of course!
I taught in Poland, where people don't have much cash. Some of the favorite cheap beachy places they reported to me were Tunisia, Bulgarian Black Sea coast and Turkey. All the scuba peeps loved the Red Sea (Egypt), but it might be more expensive than the other places I mentioned. |

From here I think the best holidays are if you go East - Sri lanka, India, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos. Tunisia is surprisingly hard to get to from here: not many flights. Oman is great but doesn't really offer sybaritic beach lazing - it's good for short holidays from the UAE. |
