Thanks for all of your posts regarding this start up situation. Your comments are much appreciated.

In any case this appears to be a hardship and less than desirable post.

What is considered to be a "reasonable" offer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia? I know the answer depends on qualification however what should I be looking for in an offer. The university seems to be unprepared to provide contract details, is this normal?

Can anyone with Middle East (Saudi) experience provide insight into the salary structures and monthly expenses for this area of the world.

Thanks

Since you have said that you realize that the offer depends on credentials, you probably should have mentioned what yours are so that people can give you an answer.

The schools in the KSA are doing me a favor by not getting back in touch with me or not giving me the contract I want. I'll be scuttling my plans to work in TESOL for the next year or so. I'm going after that MA everybody's talking about here, the cred that lands one the 4000+ dollar jobs. I'm tired of rubbing shoulders with holders of BAs who think they're my equal or even better than I am, and I'm tired of being one. It's time to take that big step or get out of this business for good.

I'm doing the in-class master's, not a distance-learning deal. The online MAs aren't acceptable at many of the good places I'd want to work. I just couldn't work towards a degree that I knew up front wouldn't be 'good enough' at a lot of places. So...off I go.

Good luck everyone. I hope you new-goers to the KSA find it's not so bad there. I'll see you out there somewhere on down the road. I'm taking this off-ramp for a little while.

Hey Rige, where are you planning to do the MA?, Thunderbird or New Jersey??
Just out of curiosity how many ackers will it set you back???
I 'm doing an online one with Oxford Brookes in England and ITS A PAIN mostly because work and study is difficult. Very reasonable costs though and an interesting experience.
Anyway, do let us know how you get on and good luck with the big money jobs........ personally I'd recommend plumbing.

Mr Rige, you'd still be rubbing shoulders with BA holders whatever you do as you usually need a BA to do a MA. What exactly sickens you about being a BA????

Hi VS, you are quite right, I should have mentioned my paper credentials.

Bachelor Of Commerce, B.Com (Business degree)
FiCB, AIIC, PMI ( Banking, Insurance and IT related)
TESOL Diploma
TESOL Certiificate
Enrolled in a MA TESOL program
Experience tutoring foreign students for the last 5 years.

If anyone can give me an idea of "reasonable" salary and benefit expectation your help would be much appreciated.

Being as I don't have two hours to make a list, I'll give my top two:

1. Bosses who are 15 years younger who think they know more than I do. 'They gots the lambskin paper, so I guess that makes it so.'

2. Co-workers who are 20 years younger who think they know more than anyone else in the house. And I gotta work with these cats.

I want to get a job at an outfit that hires MAs and PhDs only. So I gotta go get that piece of paper. It's all good medicine, though.

Yes, I always thought that youth was wasted on the young......however, an MA is no Armour against the PHDs..you will still be inferior unless you get one and they may....gulp.....know less than you in all probability from what you tell us. Still its good to see that you are enervated into expanding your mind through the information gleaned on these boards. Well Done.
I am sure that when you return you will be welcomed with open arms (human not guns) by the Masters, Shakers and Shapers that so fashion our insignificant lives.

This made me laugh... let's all remember back when we were fresh out of university with whatever degree we had... and thought we knew EVERYTHING... I suspect that you would have probably hated yourself at that age rigel. Laughing

I too suggest that you best get a PhD... because whereas those fresh young MAs treat you without respect... you ain't seen nothin' like the disdain that the PhD's can conjure up as far as lowly MAs go...
