Well, this is my first post on this forum. I just began reading up on the material on the forum because my friend and I have been thinking about looking for jobs in Japan as English teachers. Both of us recently graduated from a four year institution and have started our research on the various options that are available for prospective teachers in Japan. I've read a lot of posts about Aeon, ECC, Nova and Geos, as well as some material on Westgate. However, I was wondering what other schools may be hiring at the moment and what steps we might want to take in contacting and applying to these places.

We are both located in Northern California, and have noticed that the vast majority of US recruiting on the West Coast seems to take place in LA. Are there any schools that recruit in the SF area that we should be aware of? Also, is there any process that we can go through to ensure that the two of us will be located in the same general area, and are there schools that provide such accomodations for people who want to travel to Japan together? Any information regarding these schools and the steps we should take in approaching them would be much appreciated. Thank you very much in advance!

For newbies to Japan, there are eikaiwas and there are ALT slots. The latter are comprised of dispatch agency employers and the JET Programme. If you are experienced/lucky enough, you might also want to consider business English agencies. Read the FAQ stickies for more information about specific ones. Otherwise, just seek out the common places where they all advertise:
eslcafe.com
www.eltnews.com
www.ohayosensei.com
www.gaijinpot.com
and many more (I'd be happy to give you a list I've compiled if you want to send a PM.

No. It's all a crap shoot. You go where the jobs are. Not many places hire couples (something that has been discussed often here and should be searched if you are interested).

Not many. If you are not married or engaged, it will be very difficult, IMO.

Thanks for the response, Glenski. I'll send you a pm once I reach 25 posts... currently it won't let me send any pms. Anyway, I've started looking into the sites you've posted so far and they look very helpful!
