I'm back in the market for a position and I've noticed a big change over late last year. I used to get 3 offers a day to my mail box, now I get 0. (Not counting the agencies from korea)
I'm pretty sure I'll land something soon, but wow, what a change from before.
Are you saying you used to get unsolicited job offers in the past from various websites you subscribed to, but now you aren't?
Fewer offers via email doesn't necessarily mean fewer jobs available. It just means fewer job offers are finding their way into your email inbox. The jobs are still there.
I used to subscribe to some websites that sent me job offers, but over time all of them have dropped my address (due to little or no direct contact with me) and now I don't get any of them.
There are many other factors that could have resulted in you receiving fewer job offers via email.
Try a more pro-active strategy during your job search, visit websites that advertise jobs and that allow you to contact the schools directly.

there're so called "companies" that offer varieties of "opportunities". so, for example, a "company" could offer you "oral jobs" or "oral jobs". once, i worked for a company with a few centers as well as some other businesses such as for example "dating service", GAC center, and ok oral language school. i was asked to teach some 30-40 year old women how to "communicate" with foreigners too but that's not what our OP wants to hear. what you should know is that this "company" is a "group" and they've got some multiple adverts for different locations which could prove raindrops point above. i'd write a warning on them but i don't wanna be threatened again as i've been a while back by another one. and they're running their schools under different company names anyway...hard to sue them too. my fingures are itchy though.
OP, i too have experienced the same recently. there're fewer opportunities in this country as it looks. i think, they've "promoted" their own breed of highly skilled and educated academics.

What's your opinion on the changing job market?
I have moved around quite a bit, have applied for (and gotten) lots of jobs. This is what I have found in 09.

Nobody seems to have just one campus any more. I didn't know how lucky I was to just ride my bike from my uni apt. to a class or walk for 5 min., teach and go back home, read, write, study, in exchange for teching English for 16 or whatever hours. Now everybody has a commute. Since I write so much and publish, this cuts into my time, adds stress, adds time to labor time exchanged for money --"hrs per wk". Even the Chinese teachers, who are quite patient/silent, hate these commutes. So now I'm trying to find the shortest commute and highest wages.
Which brings me to: wages seem to be down. Could be I haven't paid attention, but even finding 5K is just about impossible.
Weird lingo in the contracts about extra jobs ft will do
No computers in apts. (I've depended on them; I know they're cheap, but that's been my system for years now.)
