I've tried searching the forum but there is so much on HCT and the search parameters for a topic like this so wide that I though it easier to start a new thread and see if anyone is interested in adding their 2 dirham. My apologies if this has all been done before.

HCT's website lists 14 colleges, a set of 7 locations each with a men's and women's college. Which of these are known for able administration? Which, if any, are known to produce frustrated, demoralized teachers?

After spending a year in hell at a horrible, private, "so-called" "university", I currently work at Dubai Women's College and I am very happy with the work, my teaching team, and my direct supervisor. There is a lot of administrative work teachers are required to perform in addition to our regular duties. However, after the hell of the first experience in the UAE, I have no problem with that.

Well, I am just guessing ....... Laughing

HCT women's colleges = Il Buono
HCT men's colleges = Il Brutto
In between = Il Cattivo

I have heard that our cowboy, NCTBA, is working with one of the HCT men's colleges, South-East of the border of the Magic Kingdom, and he may confirm my above guessing! Laughing

I never ceased to be amazed how life in UAE is ..................!

Sorry 007... you've got NCTBA's placement wrong, but that doesn't matter.

But as to the question:

Administrations tend to change too, so what was true last year may not be true this year. Some people get along with the reputed bad admins while others don't get along with the supposedly good admins.

For years, DWC had the worst reputation for turnover, but the director there has finally mellowed out... age I suppose. Laughing The current director in Sharjah is disliked by many, but many teachers have been there for years with no problems. Then you have situations like ADW, which has been considered one of the best branches for years, but has gone through quite a few management changes lately, so who knows? Al-Ain has seemed to go along for years without a peep of complaint.

So, the pros and cons of HCT are relatively predictable, but not necessarily by branch. Laughing But, it doesn't really matter, since you don't have much choice on where you go anyway. If you get an offer, best to just go with the flow. (one factor is if you have school age kids, some locations don't have good schools)

I know people at seven HCT colleges including some of those with supposed management problems and they all like their jobs. There are teachers who cry foul of management for making the smallest change in their schedules or daily routines, and those who just get on with their jobs. If you like teaching, you'll like HCT.

Hi, there lol. For ANYONE'S edification (especially Secret Agent Man and VS), I do NOT work for the HCT...I dunno what "HCT" even stands for...possibly "Heroes Courageously Teaching"? Very Happy However, that being said, I have it on good authority that there are people in both locales that are very nice folk...if not shrill at times. Rolling Eyes Particularly, if you work in Fujairah, you'll LOVE the diving and have lotza time for belly-button contemplation! The Ruwais folk have good accoms. as to what I'm told, at the ADNOC compound. Compound living is good...unless it gets all blowed-up! Crying or Very sad

Well, if you want to be very far from the border of the Magic Kingdom, avoid Ruwais. Laughing
Fujairah is more close to the border of Oman.
Both are like Bradford or Blackburn to Manchester!! Laughing
