Has any body heard of a school called the Philadelphia Academy? Do you know what they are like? Also, is 15000 crowns ok if the school is providing the accomodation? |

If it is 15,000 net and no charges for accomodation, I think it's pretty good. |

I am not at that school, but I make 15,000 net per month with my flat and utilities paid and I have no problems making ends meet. I actually can save some every month, but I do not smoke, rarely drink and have very little debt. |

That sounds like a pretty good offer. However, check the details -
1. How many hours is it (H x 45 min)
2. What's the location like? If the flat is simply horrible, then its not really worth it. |

Sorry to bring up an old post. But I recently applied to Philadelphia Academy. Here's what they offer, is it a good job? Which is better taking the 15K with free acommodations or the 20K and trying to find my own accomodations? I'd be going with my husband. WE don't need any frills, we're used to third world living (ie showers out of a bucket, no furniture except a bed )
I'm hoping my husband could pick up a couple hours teaching Spanish as well.
The job
one year or longer. The new teacher would be guaranteed about 25 - 30 teaching hours a week. We offer about 15 000,-CZK gross and free accommodation (except for utilities) or about 20 000,- CZK gross and help with accommodation. The accommodation is a fully furnished flat in the school building or a fully furnished flat in 10 minutes walk distance. We would help with all the paper work and take care of health and social insurance. The teacher would be provided by all teaching materials (textbooks and tapes) and supported by the senior teachers if necessary.
The school
The Philadelphia Academy is a private language school and has been in the market for more than 10 years. The stuff is built by about 45 teachers, most of them are Czech. We have native speakers for English, German, Spanish and Russian. We also teach other languages French, Italian, Czech for foreigners. The classes are being hold in our classrooms ( or in our clients offices. We usually work with the textbooks by Longman, Oxford, Cambridge, Macmillan etc. Our clients are mostly adults, average age about 30, and they work for different local companies. Some of them are interested in Business English in such case we use special textbooks and materials.
The town
Mlad Boleslav is an industrial town with about 50 000 people. It is well known in Europe because of the car production - factory koda Volkswagen. It is not far from Prague (50km 1 hour by bus) and from the area called Bohemian Paradise (see www.czech-paradise.cz) which offers many beautiful places/castles/lakes to visit. There are unfortunately no www about Mlada Boleslav in English at the moment. To get some impression and see photos you can nonetheless look at www.mb-net.cz, www.bohemianet.com, www.turistik.cz |

Well, 15,000 per month with accomm included sounds like a good deal.
Some good advice is to always clarify in written form exactly how much you will be paid and for how many classes you will be required to teach.
Personally, I would ask the school to email you the contract (English version) before you commit.

...that's what i figured...i was lucky enough to have a 7 day vacation every 10 week cycle....Friday's were always really hard.
i had a stockbroker friend come off WallStreet and he said ESL in L.America is a lot more work, stress, than even WallStreet and NYC living.. |
