Dears all, I am a lecturer in English in Pakistan and I want to teach in the Middle East. Can anybody in the real know please let me know what the job opportunity is for an experienced non-native ESL teacher, in Saudi Arabia and the UAE with the following credentials: B.A. in English; TEFL Dip.; B.Ed. and several years of TEFL experience along with English proofreading experience. Is being an M.A. a must to get a ESL job there, for a non-native English speaker? And where do I have more chances of finding an ESL work, in the KSA or the UAE?
Thanks! |

If you read the posts on this board, you will find a Master's is required for university/college employers. You could try language schools like Berlitz. |

One year during the time I taught in the KSA, the college hired three non-native English speakers from Pakistan. Two of them held MAs and one held a PhD. After arriving and finding out that their salaries were less than native English speakers holding BA degrees who were hired at the same time, they were very disappointed. While avoiding to express their disappointment and complaints to administrators, they chose to make a stir in the office by comparing their degrees and experience to others--new hires as well as native and non-native speaking veterans. Before long, they alienated themselves.

Not sure, but I would think you would have more opportunities in the KSA in that you do not have an MA. |
