Where do teachers normally live in Jeddah? Price for a one bed apartment roughly?

There is no "Teachers' District". They live all over Jeddah, as in any other city around the world. The salary of a teacher can range anywhere from SR. 2,000 to SR. 20,000 per month, depending on type of school, experience, and nationality.

One bed apartment in a compound: SR. 25,000 - SR. 60,000 per year
One bed apartment not in a compound: SR. 10,000 - SR. 15,000 per year

I'm not familiar with Jeddah, but I'd imagine the OP's problems might be:

1) Finding any small apartment. Apartments (at least those not on compounds) tend to be geared towards large Saudi families, so it's difficult to find one-bedroomed apartments.

2) Finding a non-compound landlord who will agree to rent to a single woman. Perhaps things are more liberal in Jeddah, but I know that here in Riyadh many landlords will refuse to rent to a single woman.

3) Finding furnished accommodation. I've heard this can be difficult, and many apartments come with nothing more than bare walls and plumbing. Having to pay for everything from a cooker to a bed can be a significant investment for someone who may only be here for the short term.

I would suggest turning down the mental volume of the responses on these boards to any suggestion of shared accommodation.

I'm one of those who would not even consider any job which required me to share housing.

However, I'm aware that not everyone feels the same way and that some people - bizarre though it seems to me - actually like sharing!

I do know that it's quite possible to share accommodation in KSA, whether on or off compound. There are people who make compound living affordable by sharing villas. So it definitely can be done.

I'm with you on this. Those who are happy to share are often 'sapphic' colleagues.
