Hi all,

I am also heading to Vietnam and due to arrive mid June. I was offered a position at a school which has just fallen through today. Guess the recession has hit. Am still keen to come there but am unsure what I will find in the way of work especially as I don't have experience. Will see how the land lies when I get there I guess !

I have put up a post relating to Laos and if there is work there. I loved Laos and wondering if the pace of life may suit me better and my art making life style.

Vietnam would be lovely to come see anyway ..... even if for a short holiday ! I don't have as much cash as I thought due to down sizing of my current job so wont be able to stay too long without work. Worst thing that could happen is that I return to little old NZ and go do teachers college instead. Oh the dilemma !

Heres to trusting that something will turn up !!

Well, one more week and I will arrive into the bustling centre of Hanoi ! It will be a welcome escape from the freezing temperatures here in chilly, blustery Wellington. Not sure how my body will cope with such a dramatic change in temperature !

The school is keeping in touch with me which is great and are helping with my Visa and may help with other aspects as well. Once in Hanoi I can figure out my next plan for approaching schools and I may yet be able to get some part time work. Time will tell. I am just looking forward to being somewhere new for now and getting on that plane.

Hanoi here I come !

Which school did you get a job with in the end then? You're previous post was when it had all fallen through. Shocked

I haven't got a new job at this stage, just decided to come anyway !

Things can change fairly quickly and it is possible the original school may have something but of course there is no promises at this stage ..... sign of the times I guess ! The school has been really good, very open and honest. Fingers crossed I can get something part time either there or at another school. That way i get to find out if this is really for me and wether I invest in more studies.

I figured I don't have anything to lose by coming as my job here in NZ had hours cut and the job market here is pretty slow with jobs being axed in a number of areas. My ticket was nonrefundable. I have been in similar positions before where jobs have fallen through and was in the previous recessions so am good at being adaptable and 'riding the wave'. New things or solutions have always come my way.

Anyways if it doesn't work out all is not lost as I would have been able to see a lovely country. I am sure I will be inspired in my art making, which is in fact my first love.

Teachers college or some other further study beckons. Plan A, B, C, D.....

Watch this space !

I'm heading out to Ho Chi Minh in July to meet up with a friend then I'm doing my CELTA in Hanoi in August. Ive got most of my things sorted but it's all a bit daunting. It won't feel like it's happening until a few days before i go i guess. I've just been trying to brush up on my grammar and learn a little Vietnamese in the meantime.

Thanks for the wonderful list of schools ..... great !

I may have a job after all. Fingers crossed it all works out.

My school has organised a working visa so I hope I get the confirmation letter in the next day or so.
