Hi all,
I recently applied for and was given a position in Vietnam which has just been withdrawn. I am 2 weeks away from flying to Vietnam and now need to rethink what I do next. Vietnam seems to have been hit with the recession.
I am a newbie with a CELTA and degree. No experience as yet. I am wondering if Laos is perhaps a better place for me. I loved Laos and really enjoyed meeting the people. I am an artist as well and am looking for a lifestyle that will work well with my art making and my wander lust. Vietnam seemed great but maybe Laos would be quieter with slower pace of life.
Am looking for the silver lining in this rather grim news, and am grateful for any info on how Laos is going at the moment for employing newbies. |

Laos, as far as the teaching thing has been going really hasn't been hit by the global economic crisis at all. It is definitely quieter and slower than Vietnam in every measurable way...I think that is good! They appreciate art and many schools have art classes as part of the regular curriculum. Not so the language academies however. Check it out. I did and will never leave, like many of the ex-pats I know here. |

Thanks !
I am feeling much more positive as I near the date of departure.... less than a week now !
The school I was going with originally may have found an alternative job but will see when I get there I guess. I have heard that Hanoi can be quite full on but it does sound beautiful. Laos does appeal though as I loved it there and of course the pace of life seemed great, especially for a NZer that is used to smaller places and space etc ! I also love love love the textiles there ... such talented amazing people !
Time will tell. just great to know that I can make my way down to Laos if things change.
Thanks again ! |
