I am looking to take a job somewhere in South East Asia either indonesia, thailand, burma, cambodia or vietnam but do not want to live in some ultra modern developed city and go out to western restaurants everynight.
My background is in international development and I have lived for a few years in Sub Saharan Africa in very basic but perfectly reasonable living situations and would prefer to stick with that trend
. Can anyone please suggest cities in these countries where there are jobs and is isnt super congested and crazy traffic, skyscrapers, consuming capitalism central? Ideally someplace with a more agrarian focused economy, smaller scale city but still with opportunities to teach. Any thoughts? |

Hmmm - I have biases, to be sure - but take a look at Da Lat and Hoi An in VietNam & see if they fit your requirements.
If I was financially stable/had some savings set aside already, I would consider Battambang in Cambodia, as well.
And very best of luck to you!
