it appear's that the fun Mexican Aduana game of "Red light! Green light!" That we have all learned to love to play is coming to an end:

"Changes on baggage inspection for passengers arriving in Mexico
23 Oct 2008
In reference to the upcoming entry into force of Rule 2.7.10 of the General Rules on Foreign Trade for 2008, which states as follows:

For the purposes of Article 50, third paragraph of the Customs Law, international passengers arriving in Mexico by air and connecting to a final destination, either in Mexico or abroad, must have their baggage inspected by customs authorities in the first airport of entry. Therefore, airlines transporting passengers internationally must send passengers baggage to the conveyor belt in the baggage claim area, so that the passengers may claim them and proceed to customs inspection, in order to pass through the random selection mechanism.

Please note that this rule will go into effect on February 1, 2009, for passengers arriving in Mexico from Asia, Europe and Canada, and connecting to a domestic or international flight; and on September 1, 2009, for passengers arriving in Mexico from the United States of America, and connecting to a domestic or international flight."

I just came through SLP airport and the traffic lights are still in full swing...they've even been upgraded, so now there's an electronic display with a big green tick or red cross, not the old street traffic lights.....I still hate that thing!

Can someone explain to me how this is different from the former system? I dont get it.

Ive been through it once (last month) since the stated deadline and it looked the same as ever to me. I got my bag from the conveyor belt, proceeded to customs inspection and passed through the random selection mechanism (green for me, yay!).

What am I missing?

Well, your explanation would account for why I never saw any difference; my final destination has always been DF, and my foreign destination has always been Canada!
