Hello!

I'm so excited my boyfriend from NY is coming to visit me in Taipei in August! However, although I've never spent a summer in Taipei, I've heard its pretty miserably hot and if not that then a typhoon. He will be here for a total of 10 days and although I want to show him the city, I think the heat and crowds will get to him.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a late August get away for the two of us? I want to stay in Taiwan, but I'd love to go somewhere cooler and less crowded, perhaps with a nice hotel Smile We also love hiking and swimming. I'd prefer not to spend more than 20,000 for the two of us for 4 days (is that reasonable?), but I'm open to any ideas!

Thanks a lot!

Kenting.

Stay at Hotel California or the place right beside it. Both are crazy cheap.

Or the Youth Hostel in Kenting is pretty awesome too. Almost every night the whole main street of town turns into a night market.

Hello

Oh I think you might have a problem with the weather. August here is so hot no matter where you go I think. Or as you rightly say we might get it by a typhoon.

Kending is one of the few places I still haven't visited in Taiwan, but I'm pretty sure it will be particularly roasting down there in August.

Certainly get out of Taipei if you can. How about a nice drive down the east coast of Taiwan to see the beautiful scenery? I did it recently and it was a lovely day out. If you hire a car and driver you have the comfort of an air-conditioned car and stopping whenever you like to take some nice photos. You could stay overnight at Taroko Gorge or head into Hualien town for the night.

Sun Moon Lake is also a nice romantic spot. I stayed at a gorgeous hotel which is reasonably priced last month. Because of the altitude of the lake, it might be a bit cooler in that location than perhaps places like Kending. You and your bf could rent a boat and just chill out on the lake. There's also plenty to see and do in that area for a few days.

You might also rent a log cabin in Alishan mountain. You can take the old train ride up the mountain; its supposed to be spectacular with the views etc.

PM me or send me an email if you need some more details about anything I've mentioned.

Tony
