I mean, "the real deal", regardless of her Green Card status. I mean someone who actually holds a valid, current Vietnamese passport.
I ask because we're going there again, 18th time in 11 years. The last time I applied for a visa (from another country, not the USA), I was told by the DCM that all I would have to pay was an "administrative fee" each time I go, but that an actual visa would not be required.
We're traveling there from the USA this time, a much longer trip than from where we used to fly from. I don't want to screw it up.
Any recent, specific experiences out there???? |

I understand that there is a Vietnamese exemption Visa for your situation. Its like a permanent Visa that is put into your passport for five years. This Visa is only good for 90 days at a time though, but you can go as many times as you want in five years. You can get it by going to the consulate in San Francisco or Embassy in Washington DC. It requires some paperwork but then you wouldn't need to get a Visa for five years as long as your are not going to be there more than 90 days. Here is the link......

That's in Vietnamese from the embassy in DC. Here is a good translation in English.

As far as actually going there with nothing in advance....... never heard of that. You can get a Visa on arrival, but you have to pay for that and arrange for it in advance through a travel agency in Vietnam. Hope this helps. |

As mach114 said: there is a Visa exemption available to foreigners who are the spouse or child of a VN citizen. Valid for 5 years but only 90 day stays.
There is more information, English translation, and an online application form that you can print and send to your local consulate here:

You need to send in the application form, passports and marriage certificate, call your consulate to find out the current fee.
