I just finished the CELTA course (in Vietnam) and will start sending out resumes to employers in Indonesia this week.
What documents do employers ask for in order to legally process a work visa? I have a B.S. but I didn't bring an original or copy of the diploma. Should I have a copy of the diploma mailed to me in Vietnam or should I wait until I'm offered a job and have someone back home fax/mail directly to the employer in Indonesia?
Is it safe to assume I need a diploma copy for my B.S., a copy of my CELTA certificate, and a resume? Is there anything else I need? Is it pretty common for employers to have you stop in Singapore to complete the work visa?
I appreciate any info. you can offer, thanks! |

alc,
If you start work with a good employer they will provide the documents for you once you are in Indonesia. This usually involves a trip to Singapore.
You only need to show a return ticket to get into Indonesia plus pay the cost for the visa to get you into the country.
I would ask your potential empoyers whether they provide you with the correct paperwork.
You should provide your employer with a copy of your CELTA with your resume so they have all the information they need.
A CELTA will get you a job with most international language schools here and it will get you more pay than someone with a standard entry TEFL certificate. |

Father, are you suggesting that a 'good employer' will manufacture copies of a degree and CELTA for the OP? Your post reads that way following on from his/her very specific question.
Alc, you should have ready your resume and a copy or scan of your degree, CELTA, and info page from your passport. These are the items required to process a work visa.
Legally, you are supposed to obtain a work visa from your employer before entering Indonesia. Many schools - such as most EF centres - will ask you to enter on a tourist visa as Father Mac suggested. |

Malu,
Oops, yes it does read that way. My apologies. I meant to say that the employer will process the legal documents for alc once he starts work in Indonesia, not his teaching qualifications. |

Thank you for the replies. I'm getting all of my info. scanned and saved to my computer. I'll be ready to send out the resumes on Monday.
