hey there, I am doing my last year of B.A on Eng. Lit. and came to Bogazici Uni. as a exchange student the year before. Currently i am finishing my degree here at Canada and i was wondering what kind of job opportunites with approximate salary can i earn? I am born raised in Canada but have a dual citizenship and became almost fluent in turkish too if that helps. It would be sweet if anyone can give me an idea or places i can start looking at since i want to move back to Turkey next year, |

| From what I have seen.. most places will pay you a lower salary and give you different benefits based on your Turkish citizenship.. You will be able to get a job at some Universities.. and other schools.. if you want good money.. go to a high school or elementary school.. but you will work a lot.. some universities will hire you for english prep classes.. pay is ok.. but you may not get the Yabanci pay and benefits.. although it depends on the University.. most want to pay you the lesser amount. This is what i have observed.. |

| it is possible to be hired as a turk but paid at the foreign pay scale (except at government institutions) annd don't let any school tell you differently, but it's easiest to get at language schools, though finding an honest dershane is tough.... |

"dershane is tough".... to say the least.. you will make good money if you work your butt off.. and if you make yourself available every day.. and at any hour.. they will love you..and call you to work.. So yes, you can make good money. .but be prepared to workkkkkk.... If you are lucky, you can meet some really nice students at the dershanes.. I really enjoyed teaching the adults that wanted to learn English. Some dershanes will expect you to go to companies to teach.. privates or groups.. make sure they are willing to reimburse you for travelling and if they say.. you can take a bus.. or other public transport, then they are not too concerned about you.. When you get here and start working, you will understand what I mean. Good luck.. holla if you need some other info. I ain't afraid to tell you the truth.. |

There are a variety of language schools in Izmir. The respectable ones won't employ native speaker teachers without CELTA + degree (minimum), they pay approx. 25tl per hour. There are others that may employ you without the minimum qualifications but they tend to pay peanuts. (Not that 25tl is anything to write home about either!)
Your initial post suggests that you are not of native speaker standard, maybe you weren't at your best when posting, but, if that is typical, perhaps you shouldn't be paid the same as a native speaker. |
