Can someone help to follow the right procedures in attesting my diploma for a teaching position in UAE?

It says that I need to do the following:
1- notarizing the diploma, but I don't understand by who.
2- clerk office
3- Secretary of State
4- Department of State
5- UAE embassy

It is your employer's responsibility to inform you about the process. Usually, when they offer you a job, they send you loads of attachments and one of them regarding this procedure. In the worst case scenario, request the info from the HR and I am positive that they will let you know.

‎In Response to Authenticating the Documents:

In the US, there is a process, from notary/county clerk, to Secretary of State (your state), to Dept of State in DC, then to the UAE Embassy.

I hope this helps. I do not know what they charge for their services, but may be well worth it if you do not want to travel .

Sigh...degrees MUST be apostilled by the Secretary of State in the state where the degree ORIGINATED.

In order to have this process done, a notary FROM THE STATE THAT ISSUED THE DEGREE must notarize the copy of the degree as a "true and correct copy".

After the notarization and apostille work is done by the state, then it is sent to the State Department where the Secretary of State's official okey-dokey (apostille) is affixed and then it can be either sent to the UAE Embassy or hand-carried to the Emirates where the work can be finalized.

If time permits, I suggest the former.

Just curious... but what if one of the degrees is from Cairo? Cool

There are a few AUC and AUB graduates knocking about the Gulf.

As those schools are chartered in Washington, D.C., I believe, then the process would begin not far from Foggy Bottom! Very Happy

I don't know if they are or not... they are no relation to AU in DC and never have been. AUC is accredited by Middle States Association (MSCHE) and incorporated in the state of Delaware. Shocked Their US office is in NYC.

The plot thickens...

Actually, the terms "apostille" and "attestation" are not synonymous. What you need in the UAE is attestation, because apostille only applies to those countries that are party to the Hague convention. Rather than rely on second and third hand information, do this:

Go to the website of the US Embassy in the UAE. Find the page that talks about all the steps necessary for getting a degree attested. Read that page (I send sooooo many people to that site and they still don't bother reading before they ask questions). Then do what it says. Smile

This is not accurate. Just last year I was able to get this done in the state where my mother lives which is not the state where the degree originated.

Wannago, you don't indicate your location. Are you in the UAE or in the Majic Kingdom? That would make a difference.

Here is the page from the embassy:

http://abudhabi.usembassy.gov/document_authentication.html

Here is the important paragraph:

Documents issued by educational institutions (college degrees, vocational/educational certificates, transcripts):

Documents issued by schools and colleges should be originals and be obtained from the educational institutions themselves. Most schools have notaries public to provide certified copies of the degrees or transcripts. Contact the school to determine how best to have your document authenticated by the states Secretary of State. In some cases, you may be required to bring the document to a county office for authentication, and then authenticated by the states Secretary of State. Please note that the U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi will not authenticate documents from educational institutions that are not recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

As usual... not really all that clear cut.... "most schools" (which refers to universities for you non-Americans)... "in some cases"

VS
(I believe that wannago is right because a friend of mine did the above in a different state from the university, but the birth certificate had to be done in the state of birth.)

go to the county clerk of the county where the university is in with original transcripts, the county clerk will stamp
then take such to the state where the county is in for a stamp
then mail to us dept of state in dc
then take to us embassy in uae
then take to uae offices

for foreign universities , take transcripts to uae embassy in country where university is in

would you believe kuwait has reduced such burearacy and just said now a list of these universities are attested......

If your diploma is from a US university, then you may be able to skip the attestation process by having your university's registrar's office send out your official transcripts directly. Just a thought...

That is so logical and sensible, but last I heard, only HCT does that (maybe ZU? AUS?)... and have done so since they began. I have never heard of them having a teacher with faked documents.

It is easy... cheap... and effective. So... don't hold your breath until it is adopted. Laughing
