ADEC - G1 & G2 - Textbooks, Syllabi, and Supplies

These questions were asked on another thread, but I wanted to get some specific information.

First, could someone post some links to the syllabi and/or pacing guides for the grade 1 and 2 English, Science, and Math curriculums/curricula. I found the curriculum guides for NSW Australia, but Im positive these outcomes will need to be adapted for the Emirati learners.

Second, I would like to know the titles and publishers of the texts used in the three subjects mentioned (ISBN numbers would be great). Im all about supplementing the texts, but I need a base to start from.

Thirdly, I want to ship some books over, but if I can get the same titles in Abu Dhabi or Al Ain For instance, I really like the I-Spy and Lets Go materials from Oxford, but I want to use resources that are consistent with established standards.

Also, Im the guy that burns out the schools laminator. Is a laminator easy to come by in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain?

Thanks for entertaining all these daft questions. Im sure once I get there Ill be kicking myself for asking this stuff.

P.S. Any posts on tricks of the trade will be appreciated.

~Han

Your jobs will be what you make them. Bring resources for pre-KG and KG1 AND 2. The Curriculum Standards are a collection of loose objectives that barely relate to the present context. Laminators are easy to come buy, but when you buy one just make certain you buy the right laminating sleeves. The idea here is to try to wean the teachers off a textbook approach, but the problem is the parents and principals also need to be weaned off them. The whole educational context has been very corrupt in the past and the only assurity parents believe they can work with is a textbook which provides proof of what should have been learned and then known.

Primary schools in AD follow the ADEC curriculum which was written by Australians. I don't think you'll find it online - we work from hard copies. When the curriculum was designed not much thought was given to the fact that the Ss first language is not English. Hence we have been working at a grade below the ADEC standard. In terms of texts, they will vary according to the school you are in. At our school, the English text is called Parade (though Ts do not refer to it all that often); the Maths text is called Signpost; there is a Science txt but I'm not sure of the title or if Ts refer to it that often. My advice is to bring your own favourite resources - in particular photocopiable activity sheets would be useful.

For resources like paper/scissors/laminating pouches/ink etc:
Schools which have been managed by providers - those providers have been in charge of budgets which included the ordering of stationery. I'm not sure what provisions for stationery supplies are made in the locally managed schools. Local teachers here do tend to buy things for their own classrooms eg. cushions, carpets, posters.
