Hello all,
I'm a 22 year old female from the States who is moving to Bursa in a month or so to work at a Language School.
Is anyone working/living in Bursa? I'm a little worried about the sparse International community....so I'm hoping to meet some other English speakin' folks out there.
If anyone has any advice or thoughts on Bursa they would be greatly appreciated. Pre-departure nerves are setting in a bit.....
Also, how's the trip from Istanbul to Bursa? Its is a reasonable feat to travel back and forth on occasion?
Thanks everybody!!

Gemiş olsun.
Whether there are many foreigners or not they certainly are not a community. What are they paying you? That will be more of a sign of how good the job is. |

I don't live in Bursa, so don't know what it is like from that point of view. I live in Istanbul and sometimes go to Bursa on a day trip. Check out www.ido.com.tr for ferry timetables (you can go from Bursa or Yalova).
Bursa is a pleasant city and a ski centre in the winter (or at least Mount Uludağ is) and there are some nice places round about. Iznik is a pretty, historic lakeside town. There is also the Termal spa centre at Yalova.
The nightlife might be a bit quiet, but as I say I have never tried it.
Good luck. |

There are plenty of TEFLrs in Bursa. Visit some of the language institutes (there are 20+). Many expats hang out at night in the "fish street" (Arap Sukru).
Bursa is best suited for those who enjoy nature and would like to live in a less cosmopolitan city (compared to Izmir / Istanbul / Ankara).
Visit the tourist information centre near the Ulu Camii (Main Mosque) for a free booklet.
The ferry Istanbul (Yenikapi, near Sultanhamed) - Bursa takes only about 1.5h. Check the IDO website. Once in the "Bursa" terminal (30 minutes from Bursa proper), take the bus to the subway (metro). |
