I know of numerous phillipino, chinese and subcontinent families who are living on less than 3000 AED (from two incomes) a month here.

So for a single person, you can easily live on 6000 AED a month particularly if you aren't out buying the newest and best car, comptuer cell phone etc...

Nobody disputes that many people live and work in the Arab Gulf and get paid far less than 6000 Adh a month.

The point is that we are talking here about a teacher - not a labourer. I very much doubt if the person who posted this question intends to rent a bed space for 300 Adh a month, sleep in a room with four other people, and share a toilet with 12.

Some years ago, a spokesperson for the Centre for British Teachers opined that "Of course, teachers must be prepared to pay for the priviledge of working abroad." In other words, they must accept low salaries and contribute to the cimpany's profits.

I have never accepted that logic. If teachers want to work for low salaries, they can join the Peace Corps or go on Voluntary Service Overseas.

Al Ain is part of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is not a poor, third world country. This offer is insultingly low. It is not much more than I was being paid in Saudi Arabia back in 1977.

Or the applicant is not a qualified teacher.

I have a car. To track how much money i spend each money I use my credit card. On average, I spend about 6000 dirhams month on food, entertainment, and bills like internet, mobile, etc. I spend less than 200 dirhams/month on taxis. I spare very little expense in the supermarket; buying what I want rather than budgeting carefully.

If the OP likes the nightlife and going out regularly, s/he will burn through 6000 before the end of the month. If the OP has bills back home-even quicker. 6000/month is do-able for living but one would have to pay close attention to how one spent. 6000/month and saving? Possible if you're a frugle hermit.

Consider all the time off during the year that a teacher has. What do people usually do w/ time off? Travel. Imagine that you'll easily spend between 2000-3500 dirhams just on airfare to a popular destination like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt....The urge to spend will be more powerful than one would expect.

I agree that the living expenses of subcontinental labourers and of Paris Hilton are not of great relevance.
