Still waiting?
I was told that they will not announce anything until May...
But that seems so late, right! ...

I hear that the PNET scheme is facing an exodus of perhaps a third of its teachers this year (see Saturday's SCMP for further info), while NET (secondary) has received fewer than expected applications because of the housing allowance and salary cuts. I imagine that all of this is good news for younger and less experienced teachers who are not yet burdened with kids and mortgages back home.

Marcoregano,

Isn't there then a dichotomy with what the website states? I thought the government website stated that it will show preference for those with a PGCE in Primary Education. Although, maybe that's their way of trying to keep Primary applicants interested whilst they disband the PNET scheme(?!)

Many people are still waiting to hear about jobs...my friend in Canada has received a few emails requesting more information, but nothing more than that.

By this time last year, I had my interview....still took them til June to offer me a job!

MANY teachers are leaving....MANY!!! The housing pay cut as well as other problems are forcing their hand in the move.

The EMB website is almost certainly a crock of *****. Still, it makes sense that they want properly qualified teachers on their prog (not that many less qualified but Asia-experienced TEFLers couldn't do just as good or better mind you...but that's a different story). Despite the cuts NET (or PNET) still pays better than most teaching jobs on the planet, so I imagine there will still be enuff applicants to fill the spaces. BTW, they won't dismantle PNET...that's the one they want to expand. As for people not hearing about interviews, or the results of interviews, that is par for the course! Unless you're lucky, don't expect to know until sometime between late June and mid August. Sometimes I'm glad I'm not a NET!

Yeah, Marco, youare right...sometimes I wish I wasn't a NET. But I am and I think I am a lucky one. I like my school. I like where I am. It is not perfect and smooth sailing, but it is better than some other places I know people in.

Last year, I hounded the EMB mercilessly to find out about my status and application. I truly believe this is what needs to be done with them to get any kind of answer. Once you have a candidate number, which you will have if you have been granted an interview, call them weekly or twice a week. Whatever it takes.

Yes, the PNET is expanding and despite the money issues, there are still people who want it. Many of the people leaving have families, for whom the cut is felt more than us singles.

I know that I will be re-signing next year..... Wink
